Curious what the level of sound is for a rifle compared to an indoor sports arena or a rock concert. A firing range is quite different than hunting regarding shorts fired
Fun Fact:
In the gun control utopia of the UK, not using a suppressor / silencer is considered rude.
Washington is finally showing some common sense with the hearing protection act that was just proposed in DC. This bill would treat sound supresors for firearms like guns (still requiring a background check) instead of title 2 weapons like machine guns. Being able to enjoy the shooting sport without damaging your hearing or creating sound pollution is a step in the right direction.
I hope democrats in congress and the president can see this piece of legislation for what it truly is, a way to protect hundreds of millions of Americans hearing.
Makes sense, not only protects the hearing of the shooter, but reduces the noise level around ranges. Only a moron would oppose this bill. Of course there are a good number of them in DC.
That is not the case, the commerce clause might as well be taken out of the constitution at this point since it has been mutilated well beyond its original intent.
The Commerce Clause has been perverted to the point of being used for the federal government to do almost anything they want.

idk about rifles, but when i shoot a shotgun, my ears can sometimes ring for a few days. i never shoot anymore without some kind of ear protection.
i've also stood in front of the speakers at a rock concert. for a prolonged period of time, that would also damage your ears. but something like a 12-gauge is much louder for a much shorter period of time.
This would also be a positive for shooting clubs that have been long established but are coming under fire from new neighbors who don't like the noise. This actually became an issue here with a bunch of new neighbors trying to shut down a club that had been there for years.
Getting a gun to be "movie quiet" takes quite a bit of doing. Far more doing than most criminals care to pursue or have the knowedge to pursue. Ammo selection being only a small piece of the puzzle.
I could see suppressors being very helpful in the control of invasive species such as feral hogs and coyotes. Sadly, this will never pass despite letters in support of such a bill. There are too many people who believe what they see from Hollywood.
