People speak on their marriage like she wasnt giving herself to Frank Sinatra while Reagan was away from the white house.

My husband worked on the "just say no" project or cause. You have no idea what you are talking about!!!!!

Overwhelmingly, both sides of the aisle agree that the War on Drugs has been a miserable failure. It never stopped drug use from increasing, it directed huge government spending to the DEA (and other agencies) and away from much-needed infrastructure. It rarely prosecutes the big dealers while continually busting, jailing, and ruining the lives of small-time dealers and users. And it does almost nothing to help people with drug problems.

This is the legacy of Nancy Reagan, abject failure and harm to the country and increased power to drug cartels. Ironically, had she started giving her stupified husband regular marijuana, he might not have lost the last 10 years of his life to Alzheimers.
Drug (marijuana) use decreased by the late-1980s.

Marijuana does not prevent, treat or cure Alzheimer's disease.

No, your hate-filled, bloodshot-eyed, frothing and deluded version of Nancy Reagan's impact on this country is not her legacy.

Marijuana use decreased temporarily but crack cocaine use went thru the roof. Nancy didn't care because it was mostly inner city black people using it.

And marijuana is proving to be remarkably helpful in brain protection. It is especially helpful treating those with PTSD. Bookshelves and the internet are loaded with strong preliminary evidence that it also helps slow Alzheimers. Whatever Ron was doing, it didn't work.

It is the truth though.

She did some good things no doubt. But being a big part in the war on drugs and all the lives and families it damaged, undoes the good she did.

The legalize drugs crowd will always hate Nancy Reagan, because they hate anyone who stands between them and their high.

The War on Drugs is responsible for destroying a lot of lives, so your view is quite simplistic. I don't think anyone here is claiming that Mrs. Reagan holds all of the responsibility for that. I'm sure she sincerely thought she was doing something good with her Just Say No campaign.

In retrospect, however, it's hard to argue that the War on Drugs has been a good thing.
