My wife, a snow white red head with freckles, has a Mexican grandma. Some of her sisters look a little more ethnic, but none of them try to claim "Latina." They're white chicks. They all set their youngest brother super straight in a hurry though when he picked up racist stereotypes about Mexicans from school. He didn't know until that point that their grandma was Mexican. When are we going to learn that humans the world over are the same and should be judged by their actions, not their appearance? Never? That's what I thought.
I guess I'm a flaming liberal because I would MUCH rather live in an upper middle class black neighborhood in Atlanta than a white trailer park or in South Boston. I don't care a whit about the color of a person's skin -- I only care about their values and lifestyle.

What neighborhood do you live in now? Let me guess, mostly white.
I live in a working class majority minority neighborhood but not because I am a flaming liberal. just because I am a color blind cheap bastard.

Actually, most anybody would rather live in an upper class, "name the group" neighborhood then a poor one, thats why we have so many diferent people here in the US in the first place.
Not really. I don't look up to any group except my own people.
I don't know about you but; "my own people" can be of ANY race. Most are anglo white, some are "Hispanic", a few are of other family like Black or Asian/American Indian.
Maybe the best thing to do is to respect the identity of each person. The term Latino can be confusing, but I understand that it is meaningful to someone who claims that identity. It would be great if a Latino person could simply specify what a Latino is.
Only to non-latinos and it is far more meaningful that "white."
Uh; since "Latino/Hispanic" ain't a race, it CAN throw many people off, especially if that Latino doesn't speak Spanish.
In 2016 Leander Perez would've tagged as "Latino" even tho he was a Bull Connor level white supremacist 50 years ago in the Jim Crow South. Perez was of Spanish family.
