I don't see how moving poor people to affluent suburbs benefits them. If they're living in the burbs, they'll need a vehicle to get to/from work, school, etc. Is the govt going to hand out vehicle vouchers too? The benefit of poor people living in the city is that they have access to plenty of public transportation. Moving someone from Brownsville to an affluent area in Westchester does nothing to fix the root problem. Many of these folks are poor because they failed to get an education. Became hooked on drugs/alcohol. Have criminal records. Have more children than they can afford. Single mother homes with absentee fathers.
Fine, say you move them there. Who's going to hire them? The Obama administration just can't go suing everyone who doesnt give these people handouts.
Are you willing to fix the root problem is the question? Do you want to invest in things that prevent teen pregnancy (which has gone down significantly btw), allow more education and job training, provide services for those that are in need?
The federal government has literally spent TRILLIONS of dollar subsidizing 'inner city communities' in an attempt to bring these areas up to the same standards as the surrounding suburbs. Meanwhile the suburbs got taxed to pay for it and received nothing in return.
End result? The suburbs, who got nothing, are doing fine. The inner city communities? ... They are still cesspools of violence, crime, poor education and rampant mismanagement.
TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY.
The War on Poverty is a total boondoggle.
Total BS. Congrats on blaming all your problems on poor people.
It's always nice to be wealthy enough to live far from the devastation that your pet politics create.
Ironically, even though people are falsely accusing me of not being near diversity, I can agree with that. But even within cities, there are plenty of people that shelter themselves into private schools and neighborhoods.
This is how progressive liberals run america.
Rich and white? This is a problem.. (the term rich means not in section 8)
Democrats make you feel bad for being rich and white.
Because you feel bad for being white and able to support yourself (middle class) vote for democrats to make you feel less white and less guilty. I like to call these democrat voters who are white people who have mental issues and complex race problems.
After all the problem with America is we all don't live together. So we are going to tax you more so you can pay more for a people of color we DEEM needed in your neighborhood.
Now that is Freedom you can vote for.
This is only one small part of the over all "guilt" trip democrats play.
Assuming that your zip code location is correct, you live in an area of snow white Connecticut that is roughly 97% white according to the latest census... people like you love to point fingers at others and explain how racist they are. I don't see people like you working hard to get more minorities to move to your community.
Give me a break, you live in one of the whitest areas in the country which just happens to be filled with many of the most racist people in the US.
It's easy to sit on a high horse and piously accuse others of racism when you live somewhere that is largely unaffected by minority driven crime rates.
But when you live someplace where forced integration has a noticeable and negative effect on your community, you tend to be a little more pragmatic about the realities of diversity for diversity's sake.
No problem. People like you and me are willing to work for someplace nicer.
Exactly.
Inclusionary zoning looks like a much worse deal when you realize it's not free. If the city received an extra $10 million to spend on affordable housing, it would be crazy to spend that upgrading the views of existing subsidized tenants rather than helping more people afford more apartments. But that's effectively the choice the city makes by pursuing inclusionary zoning instead of just permitting and taxing market-rate development.
Everything in this country is now based on race. If people can stop looking at everything as "race" for a change, they will realize that many communities will fail if they put Mixed-Income Housing To The Test.
Lawrence Vale, an urban studies professor at MIT, has studied mixed-income housing in Chicago and other cities. "There are lots of assumptions about what the new neighborhoods should do to help low-income residents find role models or better social networks," he says, "but the empirical evidence of that has been scant."

Who feels bad for being white? You're a fool if you do...especially if you use it as a defense mechanism which you appear to be doing.

I've actually been in that situation and don't believe in forced integration/diversity. But we are talking about Section 8 housing and my point is why should one community have to take them and not the other? And sorry, some of the comments on the thread are flat out racist.
Total BS. Congrats on blaming all your problems on poor people.
poor people are the ones that need to stop blaming their problems on non poor people. They need to take control of their own direction in life.
