I know people from South Africa, one actually just came back from there... I have NO IDEA where you think there is a positive light about the country... much of it is in shambles and is as poor as dirt along with the VERY HIGH crime rate... if 90% of your country is like that, why would you think its a "first world country".... ? The media portrays as it is, poor and loaded with criminal activity... the tigers and lions are the best part of Africa... the safari where you go out and experience the countryside... its sad that your friend thinks "clubbing" is what Africa is all about... If I wanted to go clubbing, I would of stayed home...

Sick people. My bf and his family fled to this country--they had to leave part of the family behind at first, who went into hiding, and then the all made their way to the states. They have been productive, residents of the US since their arrival, some now own businesses and are all applying for citizenship. My bf said when the immigration services approved his stay here, he cried and kissed the ground. The glorification of Africa is a falsehood.
What you're describing just happened in Zimbabwe, right? So it's just one African country in the Southern part of the continent and a country that is roughly the size of Poland, so it could just be some isolated incidents, no? The proof is that there are still 4.5 million whites that live in the Republic of South Africa right next door.

And regarding your comment of having sex with newborns, that's another fantasy Westerners have about Africans(black that is) is it not? Are you going to thrown in the "canibalistic tales" that occured during the rebellion in various parts of the ex-Zaire too? Come on, do people still get off on the old cliches from centuries ago?

Let me ask you this: Have you ever heard of the trial of Angers in France? Where a total of 15 couples, some middle class, other rich, were on trial for pedophilia because they had a network were 65 children(the oldest was 9) were raped/sexually abused. The sickest part is that the parents of all those children let the pedophiles have fun with their kids in exchange for some cash and...food such as yoghourt, breads etc.

Now if I add in the Marc Dutroux scandal in Belgium, would it it be fair I asked you how much was the life of a little girl worth in rich Europe? No, it wouldn't and I am sure that the absurdity in my generalization with those examples would not escape the judgment of anyone here on this bord. Now think very carefully at your amusing generalization here when you wrote "The glorification of Africa is a falsehood" just because your boyfriend told you a sad story that happened to him and his family in Zimbabwe.

Try to get beautiful tales that comes from other whites that lives in Gabon, the ex-Zaire, Senegal, Seychelles, etc because as I previously stated, Africa is a continent and there are 53 countries. You can't judge 900 million people as one and use the example of the incidents in Zimbabwe. We Africans don't use the incidents that happened during the Apartheid years in South Africa to say that all white are racist and the the glorification of Europe is a falsehood

So try to be a little be faire and balance your views a little by gathering information here and there.

lol

Tigers are in Asia, and South Africa is organizing the World Cup of Soccer in June. The very high crime rate is the legacy of Apartheid that left nearly 30 million blacks living in abject poverty and with no education. If you look at crime statistics, most of these crimes are robberies, theft or any other crimes poor, desperate people commit to survive and make ends meet.

I visited Johannesburg last January and I was very impressed with the state of the art facilities and the infrastructures. So yes, if we look at the Human Development Index, South Africa isn't a first world country yet, but you're forgetting that the country just ended Apartheid in 1990, so in order for it to be considered first world, it will need to raise the overall standard of living. But it takes a lot time, so give them time.

Question: How can you confidently and contemptously talk about a place you've never been? I am just curious. What is the basis of your information? Hearsay? Anecdotes?

The "virgin rape myth" is not called a myth because it doesn't happen, it is called a myth because it does not cure AIDS. It is a very real problem, particularly in South Africa and Zimbabwe. This is certainly not the primary reason for the alarmingly high rates of child rape there, but certainly one reason. UNICEF is doing a lot of work to dispel the myth in Southern Africa. Recent statistics state as many as 2 out of 5 men believe the myth.

By definition South Africa is a "Third World" country.

There are cities throughout Africa that would certainly rival the sophistication of cities in "First World" countries.
