This link is for the year 2015.

  • 990 total shot by police
  • 494 white
  • 258 black
  • 172 Hispanic
  • the rest are other nationalities

This link is for 2016 up to this point.

  • As of this post, 512 total shot by police
  • 238 white
  • 123 black
  • 80 Hispanic
  • the rest are other nationalities

So far on the graph, the rate of police shooting this year is exactly on track from 2015.

Pretty much what we already knew. Twice the killings of Whites compared to Blacks. Almost all include the suspect having or using a weapon, during an active attack. Almost exclusively males. It'd be interesting to see what % were deemed justifiable and a breakdown of shootings by race of the police officers. All the limited evidence shows that Black officers shoot Black suspects at a higher rate than White officers. Also evidence to suggest female cops shoot at a higher rate than male cops. Would like to see those included in this database.

Here's the thing though. BLM isn't stating that more black people are shot by police than other races. They are arguing that more black people are shot unjustly by police based on their race and nothing else.

its been hard to find good solid information that details the stats. This does a pretty good job but could be better.

some things that I find interesting.
1. of the 990 782 were armed.
2. of the 990 730 were deemed "attack in progress"

That means a total 260 were not attacking anyone
208 were unarmed

You are able to view a brief synopsis of each individual incident.

If you want more, here's a DOJ study about the Philadelphia PD from last year. The number seem to echo the Post's numbers. It goes into more detail about training and other particulars... 188 pages... data taken from 2007-2013.

Why do the police keep targeting men?

Do women even care?

Default Very Good

Well the post puts some good information on what the BLM has been bring up with Black Deaths. I think these numbers to an average citizen blend in with the Black on Black crimes. When any police Department Investigates it could be mistaken as a police shooting.

I really want to know what each officer did immediately before the call where the shooting happened.
There is solid but limited data out there that shootings are far more likely to occur immediately after the officer responded to a death, abuse, or domestic violence call. (In other words, that the dominant factor might have absolutely nothing to do with race.)
As an example, recall that the officer who shot Michael Brown responded to a suicide immediately before the shooting.

Some might consider this profiling.... But stats show that men commit crimes much more often than women. So it's only logical that cops would profile men over women.
