*Sigh*

And so it goes, again and again....

Baby dies in mother's car, forgotten while she went to work | abc13.com

Quote:
A baby boy was found dead in his car seat after his mother forgot to drop him off at day care while she went to work.

Dayton police were called to the Kreative Kids Learning Center in the 200 block of Seekamp Street at about 6pm Thursday. When officers arrived, they found the one-year-old boy was still buckled in his rear-facing car seat in the back seat of the mother's car. The baby had already died.

Lol. Right. It's not the death of your child that will stop you from doing this, it's the potential to be punished.

Ridiculous. Unless some sort of malice can be proven -- and there are cases where the parents dressed it up as an "accident" but were caught-- why clog up the prisons and waste taxpayer money on someone who is not likely to re-offend?

Investigate her. See if there was any reason that she would have wanted her kid dead. But if not, she's been punished enough. These things happen, unfortunately. Especially nowadays that our lives are so fast-paced.

A similar crime happened in Pennsylvania in July and I can basically cut-and-paste the same response:

In today's busy-women-can-"have it all" atmosphere, there is bound to be a little collateral damage in their wake.
I actually read some "advice" to avoid this sort of thing - saying to put "something important like your cell phone" in the back with Junior so you'll remember to look back there.

I can understand forgetting the groceries in the back seat. It's awful enough when your ice cream melts all over the place but to forget your own child (at any time much less on a super hot or cold day) ... is beyond my comprehension, even if one is harried, etc. ... unless you are on drugs perhaps?

Are these people who forget their children being checked for drugs? I'm not just talking about street drugs alone but also prescribed meds like benzodiazepines, antidepressants, etc.

This leaving baby's in cars has only been happening since car seats being moved to back seat instead of being next to the driver in the front. Maybe a better solution is change car airbags design to allow the seats in front again.

Or let people decide for themselves if they want airbags at all or where their children are seated.
There are no govt solutions for poor individual choices.
