For those too lazy to research the subject themselves. Here is a good timeline for the beginnings of the birther movement.

Can the thread starter apologize for creating a made-up story, and actually put the blame where it belongs, on Trump?

I doubt it.

i believe a fair question now would be "when did you stop believing in birtherism?".

the HI department of health confirmed the facts of obama's birth in october 2008. any legitimate concerns on the issue died there. trump didn't enter the birther spotlight till 2011. he was either incredibly gullible or intentionally pandering to the gullible. i think either is relevant to his potential as POTUS.

here is the best researched article on the topic that i've found:

Barackryphal: The Secret Origin of the Birthers

Barackryphal: Secret Origin, Part 2

two things will need to be added from this week:

* doyle's claim of a "rogue clinton staffer" who forwarded a birther email and was fired. doyle "believes" it happened in december 2007 but that doesn't jive with the emails we know of. my guess is that it happened ( if it happened ) later in 2008.

* james asher's claim that blumenthal said obama was born in kenya and/or asked asher to investigate. no date yet given for that claim.

“During that meeting, Mr. Blumenthal and I met together in my office and he strongly urged me to investigate the exact place of President Obama’s birth, which he suggested was in Kenya. We assigned a reporter to go to Kenya, and that reporter determined that the allegation was false.

At that point in time - Trump was friendly with the Clintons - who don't like Obama and Hillary passed that little tidbit on to Trump - who ran with it and we see how that ended up. Hillary was trying to get this back in the spotlight - unfortunately Donald did the dirty work for her and it backfired on him.

Default Attack Dogs of Clinton!

Blumenthal was a attack dog for Clinton and the reason Obama did not want here in her state in the State Department. That is his job at the time to make Clinton look better than Sen. Obama.
This business of the Obama's helping Ms. Clinton because of their hate -hate relationship, is a joke.

Its amazing Blumenthal has not ended up in prison for collusion. Racketeering and inside trading.
