Matt Lauer totally bombed at the NBC Commander-In-Chief Town Hall last week, and he has received a ton of criticism from fans and critics alike over his clearly biased performance. Now, one report says that his bosses agree with the criticism, and that Matt was #Laueringthebar, as Twitter has deemed it.
CNN’s Brian Stelter is reporting that several high-ranking sources at NBC News “said they hear the criticism and agree with at least some of it.”
One executive, whom Stelter didn’t identify, was particularly blunt, and said the town hall was a “disaster”.
Lauer has been widely criticized for not challenging a number of Donald Trump‘s statements, including his fully debunked claim that he opposed the Iraq War.
One executive assigned the blame for Lauer’s performance to Lauer’s boss and ally, NBC News and MSNBC chairman Andy Lack. According to Stelter, Lack was “intimately involved in the forum planning and execution,” and at least one executive believes Lauer’s performance falls on him.
Lack praised Lauer’s effort in a memo to staffers, saying, “My deepest thanks to everyone who helped pull off this remarkable achievement.”
However, Page Six is reporting this morning that NBC’s top brass is not as thrilled as Lack’s memo would have everyone believe:
“A source told Page Six that “Matt was hung out to dry on this,” and that NBC News and MSNBC chairman Andrew Lack was the one calling the behind-the-scenes shots. The source said Lack was controlling the interview, including the decision to move Clinton along during certain questions and to linger on the emails.”
He did a poor job after all and didn't understand the answers he received from Trump. He acted incredulous but if he had known what he (Lauer) was asking and what went behind it, then the answers made perfect sense.
As to the Hillary thing focusing on emails, it seemed like a lot to me.
They should have had a military strategy correspondent chairing the forum not a convivial host of a morning show which only requires surface level knowledge.
Sad thing to see is that liberals destroyed journalism... Protection of free press became protection for agenda to subvert people... The amount of positive things for Hillary and anti-trump revealed what the media has become... Everyone knows the truth but it is shocking how the liberals destroyed legitimate journalism...
Hillary has more baggage as it pertains to the job==which is why she was grilled about it.
Trump isn't a politician, so there's less to go on unless you're going to grill him about tweets. BTW Lauer grilled him just as much about the "take the oil comment"
What a bunch of pansies. Lauer has been on their side for years, and because of one real interview... he may be toast. Not that I feel sorry for him, but geez - if this is how they treat their own, how will they treat people they don't like? Or more importantly, how will they treat regular US citizens that have no connection with HRC?
So the liberals are angry at Matt Lauer for what they see as him being too soft on Trump and too hard on Clinton. Had it been the other way around, they would be patting Matt on the back.
It was not even all Lauer's fault. He was just following orders of Andy Lack. Lack is letting him take the fall.
Should have been Chuck Todd or Brian Williams.
TV news executives aren't necessarily as smart as they think (on both sides of the aisle i.e. Ailes). Oddly enough, Andy Lack is trying to make MSNBC more conservative, and Trump has given him a lot of compliments.
"...New sources came out this week to say “Matt was hung out to dry on this” and claim that NBC News and MSNBC chairman Andrew Lack was the mastermind behind the seemingly political bias..."
