How Decades Of Democratic Rule Ruined Some Of Our Finest Cities

When Democrats are in control, cities tend to go soft on crime, reward cronies with public funds, establish hostile business environments, heavily tax the most productive citizens and set up fat pensions for their union friends. Simply put, theirs is a Blue State blueprint for disaster.

Just look at some of the prior thread of San Francisco... They are allowing people to poop in the street... and then using tax money to clean it up. Does that sound enticing enough for anyone to want to move there?
You are deluded if you think people don't want to live in San Fran. It has some of the highest home values in the country, rents are through the roof, etc.

Obviously they're not, but I'm trying to make a point.
Maybe not on this board, but out there ridicule of Appalachian and other rural people is quite common.

People under 70 can't remember real patriotism, not needing to lock your car, homeless were almost unknown in the 60's. Crime in rural areas almost unknown and most kids had respect for others property. Liberal/socialism appeared after Viet war and we have been on a downward trendline towards the toilet in DEM controlled cities ever since......we idolize the idiots in Hollywood and laugh at conservative real problem solving........ad nauseum........

Why is rural America so poor and drug addicted, then? It's filled with conservatives and run by them.

Prior to the 1960s, most modern day "liberal" cities were majority white, majority Republican, and had a thriving economy, thriving middle class, low crime rates, good schools, and affordable housing. Liberals in typical fashion would see something wrong with that society and introduce illegals from poor countries into these communities en mass. Crime and violence go up, property values decline, taxes go up, middle class are punished and move out, etc and then another once conservative city is destroyed by the left. Then those lefties move out and move to conservative cities and states like Colorado and Utah and do the same thing there. This is why people say liberals are mentally ill. This is why people say liberals destroy cities. Because that's what you do. You exist to destruct and dismantle western values.

I live in one such city, Baltimore. Yes, I do blame many of the city's problems on the liberal politicians and the people who continue to mindlessly elect and re-elect liberals.

Here are just a few problems I blame on liberals:
* Crime - liberals are not tough on crime, liberal judges routinely let violent offenders out of jail and give them light sentences
* Guns - Despite the above, law-abiding citizens are not afforded the means to defend themselves from violent criminals
* Taxes - The property taxes here are almost twice as much as any of the surrounding counties, and the city wonders why nobody wants to buy property here
* National Issues - The fools on the City Council are routinely interjecting themselves into national politics when their singular focus should be on addresses the many, many local problems such as the above
* Wasting Taxpayers' Money - The liberals who run this town are continually demonstrating that their priorities are screwed up - examples: 1) they gave all Baltimore City school kids the day off and bus transportation to travel to D.C. to protest Donald Trump; 2) they appropriated $300K to hire attorneys for illegal immigrants, 3) The City gave $6M of taxpayer money to the family of Freddy Gray, whose contribution to society was raising a drug dealer who they were lucky enough to have die in police custody (P.S. all the involved police were completely exonerated in the end)
* Racism - All major offices in Baltimore are occupied by African Americans and the police force is majority minority - YET, the city's problems are still attributed to "racism" as opposed to corruption and incompetence of the all-black leadership

So yeah, liberals are to blame for problems in big cities.

The most populous metro areas in the US attracted mass migration because of jobs. They tend to lean left.

The most populous metro areas tend to have more everything, good, bad and ugly because there are more people. More wealthy. More poor. More crime. More law abiding.

The so called rust belt- middle America has lost more jobs to technology substitution/ industrial robotics than offshoring. Too many communities were and to some extent remain dependent on a single common employer.

In the mean time, there’s not a whole lot of attention paid to perennially poor rural areas. Some lean right. Some lean left.

Seems to me that in modern politics it is customary to blame the other party. The mature 24/7 cable news cycle feeds off this, especially during prime time. The internet click bait media feeds off this. Social media feeds off this. And no shortage of the population goes along.

In what city or circumstances would RowingFiend apply blame on those asterisked points to conservatives?

The supply and demand issues causing housing prices to skyrocket are a product of liberal regulatory and restrictive policy. There is all sorts of red tape to building in California and New York, etc. it’s also fairly easy to see how say forcing everyone to buy a solar panel would raise housing prices. Based on demand their major cities should be built out an hour in each direction like say Charlotte and Atlanta to create more supply. Also taxes and high minimum wages are a fairly direct way to increase cost of living. All of this is of course anti-middle class which is why you will find very few people, relatively, living squarely in the middle class in large coastal cities. Pretty much only the rich and the poor live in these places.
