This is the most ridiculous and ignorant thread --- with the most obtuse posts -- I've read on C-D in a while. The 60 million figure quoted is people who speak a different mother tongue than English. Most of these folks are bilingual, and all their kids will be bilingual or English-dominant once they enter kindergarten. There will always be a large population here who were born abroad and speak another language. According to the US Census American Community Survey, fully 75% of all these people speak English "well" or "very well."
That doesn't follow the narrative that they want to believe. But it wouldn't surprise me if Republicans were so threatened by immigrants that they'd demand them to lose any other language they know but English. Hell, I'm surprised the Alt Righters don't take torch and pitchfork to Rosetta Stone.

Reagan didn't open any gate. He gave amnesty to 3 million illegals when he thought it would only be 300,000. He was promised by congress to secure the border and that is would be the last amnesty. He live to regret his decision because congress didn't follow through.
As for Obama his solution was to grant them stays of deportation along with work permits with millions of Americans out of work. He bypassed congress by EO which was ruled unconstitutional by the courts. So yes, he accelerated the problem as more just kept pouring in along with hundreds of thousands of so-called refugees.

But the issue started with the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, and Ted Kennedy's advocacy for it. It changed the course of America's future from a predominately Western, First World society, to a population dominated by Third World immigrants & their extended families.
Ted Kennedy was completely wrong and/or completely dishonest about how the Act would transform America. If u have time, research it. Peace
