It seems as though the demographics of alcohol and drug usage that used to be overwhelmingly skewed towards men are narrowing.

Who Uses Heroin? Not Who You Might Think

Supposedly, there number of heroin users are about equal also according to this article.

It is actually pretty sad for both men and women.

Maybe they can hook up and become each other's therapists. Never ending toxic co-dependent relationships.

Heroine use is unfortunate, alcohol is fine. The first study being talked about was identifying use, not abuse (though the gender gap is also closing on abuse). I didn't get too scientific with it, so I'm not entirely sure how use was measured, but from what I got by briefly skimming the study (keep in mind, this is distinct from skimming the article), use was just semi-regular use.

I blame the popularity of craft beer, if I blame anything. Not that it matters who's drinking alcohol one way or the other.
