Those are all about protecting Trump---he has used them all the time in his business---
And given how stupid his legal sources seem to be I doubt they are really enforceable...
And legally I don't think he can use a non-disclosure to preempt something like a Whistleblower complaint or someone giving truthful testimony before Grand Jury or Congressional inquiry

But that might be exactly why someone of the WH people HAVE refused to disclose/answer questions when they were testifying for Congressional hearings when they didn't claim "executive priviledge" and yet said they couldn't answer...
That might have worked for the Congressional GOP controlled panels but it won't work for Mueller as we found out with Bannon's testimony (based on news reports)...

I think this is same problem KellyAnne Conway ran into touting Ivanka's product line and what they all do when they "advertise" themselves at government events---
And yet, it is most definitely illegal---
Problem is getting someone in authority to enforce the law/regulations...

He gets a quid pro quo payback with their positive comments about his actions
So while there is no money that changes hands from his supporting a "product" (their brand of journalism), you have to admit that Trump benefits from the positive flow of support that Hannity and his like push to Trump's base...
Everyone knows the only news they get comes from Fox and similar sources---they aren't subscribing to the NYTimes or even watching CBS or ABC for news source

It's all part of his feedback loop, and the continuing "conditioning" for his base. If Trump says it's good, it's good and all others are against him, unless he says otherwise.

But is it legal for POTUS or any government employee to be promoting a private enterprise?

I've never read that this is illegal, but it seems that a government employee promoting a private business runs afoul of the law somehow.

Promoting Ivanka's product line was clearly out of bounds. But this seems a bit more murky.

If Trump told everyone to buy American Steel and American Steel gave him a hug campaign contribution in return that would certainly be a clear violation of the law.

The free media support of Trump by Hannity and Fox & Friends would certainly come under the heading of campaign contribution now that his campaign for 2020 is underway.

So is his paying them back with free advertising on twitter illegal?

Legal? That I'm not sure the exact specifics.

Strange and potentially unethical? Like 99% of this fiasco, absolutely. It's the Presidency, not an infomercial. Even more dubious is that his tweets are official releases/statements from the POTUS, therefore, he shouldn't be shilling for anyone.

What has been proven is Trump's feedback loop and it's link to FOX, they are basically the Trumps administrations propaganda arm.

Fox and Friends, I think Trump REALLY thinks they are his real life friends.

They talk, Trump tweets. They raise an issue, all of the sudden, POTUS has an issue. He's hypnotized by them.

POTUS spreading no collusion lies while missing the fact that obstruction of justice an even bigger problem.

All his tweets for last couple of days are about his business. The potential reason that obstruction of justice will lead down the road to reasons why collusion occurred are very real.

No matter what POTUS has a lot of dirt in his hands.

His latest tweets about his business were apparently triggered by Mueller's subpoena for his business records. Trump's business seems to be the "red line" for him. He seems to care more keeping his business dealings secret than keeping his job as President.

Obstruction of justice is a slam dunk to prove because he did it publicly, out in the open. His achilles heel is money laundering and tax evasion -- he gets caught for that and it costs him the presidency AND his livelihood. That's why Trump has consistently said his business dealings prior to the election are off-limits to Mueller.

It certainly appears that the Mueller subpoena and Trump's recent behavior are linked.

This is just so bizarre.
