The president, whether Bush or Obama or any other, and people at USCIS responsible for letting people in, whether legally or illegally, who then commit violent crimes on US soil should be held personally accountable, at the very least in monetary terms in civil law, for the consequences suffered by the victims and their families.

It is possible, there are paper and electronic trails for both acts of commission and omission.

Perhaps they would think twice about failing to execute the laws, on the one hand, and handing out residency visas in without proper vetting on the other.

Peaceful protests are more common. Granted they don't make the national news, so it might seem like violent protests that burn down buildings are the popular thing to do these days, but there are plenty of peaceful protests happening all over the country.
