There has not been a one-term Presidency since George H.W. Bush who was defeated in 1992.

Before the election, I had a feeling that either Hillary or Trump would become America's next one-term President. Both choices had all of the makings of it.

Could this be a blessing in disguise for Democrats?

Political scientists have debated if one 6-year term would be more appropriate for the U.S. President. I believe this is how Mexico does it.

The argument is he/she would not have to be so concerned about getting re-elected and could focus more on getting things done. Not sure I totally agree. I think two 4-year terms is a good format.

There are some good arguments for that. There are pros and cons to having to worry about re-election. Even in the current format, Presidents seem to spend most of their political capital making good on a few of their promises during their first term and then coast through their second.

I guess I am a wait and see type of guy. If Donald Trumps campaign is any indicator of his presidency then he will be impeached within a year.

^^ Bawac: Yeah, I agree. Arguments can be made on both sides. The accountability of re-election being an important one as you noted.

I think the rust bucket states will be the deciding factor again in 2020. I know manufacturing is not coming back in any great numbers so Trump has a challenge ahead.

The Democrats need to stop ignoring the concerns of the white working man. Most of his concerns are shared by people of color working men.
