The OP said urban dwellers also support climate change and the response is the two are not mutually exclusive. One can live in an urban metro and be huge supporters of the environment, including salmon.

Today, NOAA Fisheries announces our determination that the joint State-Tribal proposal for the 2016 Puget Sound salmon fishing season will not jeopardize the survival or recovery of species listed under the ESA, including Puget Sound Chinook salmon, Puget Sound steelhead, three species of listed Puget Sound rockfish, and Southern Resident killer whales.

This is a different discussion, honestly. How do you house >7 billion (and growing, considerably, over time) on a planet in the least impactful way?

It's nice to be idealistic, and one could definitely make a very legitimate argument that the world would be better off with less people in it - but that's not the reality we face. And we need to make these hard decisions with that information in mind.

Urban living is, of all choices, the least impactful way forward to accommodate the huge population that we currently have (and will continue to have) on this planet.
