However, a president doesn’t just have a button to press and the weapons fire; it’s a figurative expression. A president who gave that order in peacetime would surely be treated as temporarily deranged and ignored. They would need broad support, from their defense secretary especially.

Gen. Mattis is not a nut job.

From all indications, Mattis is the one shining savior in that whole group. The others would be hiding under their executive desks when something goes wrong.

All you have to do is read his book Art of the deal. The way he views the world, and deal making is all there.

So, we have a bunch, and trump already asked multiple times why , since we have them, we can't use them... and now he wants to have more. OK, so we will have an arms race, but he says that his comments on nukes will deter others from stocking more of them... like... how?

He's manipulating the stock prices of all these companies, and the investors are running around like headless chickens buying and selling... it is just that it is too much fun for him? He can't resist? How long before all this whacked out behavior crashes not only the companies he's targeting, but the economy itself? Much less, how long before some other nutcase world leader takes him at his word?

Within a few months revisionist rightwing history will be claiming that 9/11, Iraq and the 2008 financial meltdown happened during Obama's presidency. If they aren't already.

Alrighty then.

Who is " them?"
He was responding directly to a threat by Putin about the Russians expanding their nuclear program. Putin rattled his sabre and Trump rattled back. Its certainly far better than the response from the current occupier of the White House, that being a whimper.

They're one in the same in this country and many others.

If you think the wealth imbalance is bad in this country....China and Mexico in particular are much more skewed. Any threat of trade changes, tariffs etc. has a direct impact to the elite political figures in most of those countries. In our country it typically doesn't directly impact our elite politicians but still does in the secondary form of campaign contributions etc.

Talk of WW3 crops up during and after every election where one party tries to scare voters that the OTHER parties election will cause nuclear armagedon.
