Actually screwing illegal immigrants out of a job.
The point of making sure illegals don't get those jobs is to make sure legal persons get those jobs. If prisoners are hired, that won't insure that the law-abiding citizens get jobs.
No, thank you. Let's start with the unemployed law-abiding citizens first. Set up classes, teach them masonry, let them build the wall, and then go forth and earn a living rebuilding this crumbling mess we call a country.

I think the illegals should get the non skilled jobs building the wall.
Pick 'em up in the sanctuary cities, get five months hard labor out of 'em, then set 'em free.......on the south side of the wall, of course.
The Secure Fence Act of 2006 was for 650 miles of wall. There are miles of gaps in this wall, necessary to accommodate politically- connected special interests that did not want a wall on their property. This includes a University, Country Clubs, resorts, HOAs and wealthy folk.
Now we are taking about 1954 miles of border of which about 1254 miles is in Texas, much of it in the middle of the Rio Grande.
The majority of the border land is private land. There's the whole determining fair market value, Emanate Domaine, Appeal process and when necessary, condemnation and seizure process that needs to occur before construction begins.
Af far as using prison labor or not, that battle will be fought between private contractors and government. I suspect the for profit private prison complex will interject itself into the picture, too.

All the federal government has to do is pay for it, the wall and infrastructure.
Congress was not interested when the Bush Admin pushed for increased infrastructure spending.
Congress was not interested when the Obama Admin pushed for increased infrastructure spending.
And the current Speaker of the House and Senate leader have made clear it's not a priority for them.
Trump has made so many promises and intentions and they can't all be top priority. And some will not be realized.
Some believe the states, not the fed should be responsible for thir own infrastructure.
Some believe infrastructure spending is another massive federal spending boondoggle and want to part of it.
So I guess we're at that hilarious stage of "the wall" project where people actually talk about getting it done. And all the people so passionate about building it aren't volunteering all their free time to protect the borders. Come on patriots, do it for free for AMERICA!
you want slaves!!- pay the min wage --or builder rates whatever it is - welding- brick layers - electricians etc etc
All prisoners get paid what the various jobs they hold in prison. The wage scale has been in effect for many years..
