No. They know it will be suicide to repeal the ACA without a replacement. It's all posturing. Unless it comes with a 2-4 year time table so they have time to come up with a replacement. You know, the one they haven't been able to come up with in 8 years.
But if they do come up with a better solution (not just different, but actually better) I will be the first to support it. *cough Universal Healthcare cough*.
The "replacement" should be NOTHING. I want to roll back to the insurance market of 2008. The Federal government has no constitutional authority to be legislating anything about "healthcare".
If the Republicans actually replace the ACA with anything, you can count on it costing more money, giving less coverage and handing more profit to insurance companies and medical providers.
My only concern is the haste involved. Are we repealing it out of spite or for the future of America. Where does the motivation of these politicians lie.

It's purely spite or they would wait until they had a suitable replacement before they repealed.
That seemed too obvious to warrant a post but then again facts don't matter anymore...
I can't imagine Congress could vote on something before Obama leaves office, then wait to send the bill to Trump after he comes in. I am not the biggest expert on the government but I don't think this would be possible.

The NEW Congress is in session. All legislation passed since last week can wait until Trump is inaugurated. They do not have to send it to Obama who will just veto it. What they can't do is send bills passed in the LAST Congress to Trump to sign without it being voted on again by the NEW Congress.

The ACA was passed through Budget Reconciliation and that's what the Congress is doing right now. It's the only way to "repeal" it - just as it was the only way to pass it. Nothing happens after this vote and nothing changes after this vote ..... until President Trump is in office and the new Cabinet is seated.
A big part of the ACA is controlled by the Secretaries of Treasury & HHS. It will take time to replace the parts that will go away. It's my understanding that there are 5 different plans under consideration - it will probably be parts of all of them. It will take the Democrats to pass a new law because of the filibuster in the Senate.
The GOP plan, seems to be, to vote to repeal Obamacare before Obama even leaves office. The Senate has already voted on it, and it's on its way to the House. The Democrats have absolutely no power to stop it after having been gutted as a political force there over the last 6 years.
Why the timing? Well.. IMO in part to grab Obama by the collar and back slap him a few times on the way out.
What do you think? Do you think the congress will repeal Obamacare before the 20th?
And they're already looking to no longer require insurers' coverage on pre-existing conditions
based on budget they passed. Great job, y'all!
Watched a portion of Paul Ryan's Town Hall on CNN last night. As it relates to healthcare, he stuck to block granting funds to states to take care of those under 65 with preexisting conditions. This would remove the high risk population from the pool of heathy insured people, thus reducing people's premiums. No one in the audiences asked him to define condition as in preexisting. If states leave it to insurers, as most did prior to the ACA, the Federal Government could end up picking up the tab for a substantial percentage of the population.
He went onto talk about Federal tax credits to offset the cost of premiums including how some very low income people would get refunds in excess of what they paid in taxes. Again, Federal Givernment picking up the cost.
There was some blah blah about providing incentives to states to achieve CDC health goals, vaccinated population and weight.
He joined this program to Medicare/ Medicaid Reform, creating the option for vouchers in addition to the traditional programs. No one in the audience asked if the Federal government would require health insurers to insure the elderly population and Ryan did not go there.
He referred all to his web site for further information.
R's can repeal ACA without D's. The ACA cannot be replaced without the buy in of enough D's.
Repealing the ACA without a replacement is symbolic and a non- starter.
