But there's no slavery-type issue dividing us.

It's just hyperpartisan nonsense mostly fed by hate radio. Their message is relentless: "America sucks and it's all your neighbors' fault!"

Their audience swallows it hook, line, and sinker. Then they come to sites like CD-POC and repeat what they've heard, acting like all of us who aren't dittoheads are some sort of alien enemy.

It was not about slavery, it was about states not following federal law. How many cities and states have declared they will not follow federal laws, that are in no way 10th amendment issues.

What did he say. They may be free, but they will never be equal
I was referring to his accusation of Trump.

thats compeltely false.

The states - through the electoral college - elect the president and vice president and Trump/pence won the majority of states' electoral votes. It's a fact not matter how you try to spin it.

He also won the vast, vast majority of state voting precincts and counties.

Thing is, the states had a right to secede back then, any changes to claim otherwise are a result of the illegal actions of Lincoln. The states were promised when they agreed to join the US that if the federal government overstepped its bounds, it nullified the contract of the Union between that state. Lincoln changed that basic premise and attacked the states who chose to leave because they were being ganged up on by the feds and the northern states. This sort of behavior is not unheard of, look at CA and how the northern part of the state is held hostage by a corrupt state government and the central/southern counties.

Point is, states should have every right to secede if they choose. Let CA and the other stupid states do so, they have no clue what it is they are asking for. They will collapse under the weight of their own stupidity. They have no clue about their own states, what makes them go and the type of people that are keeping them going. Once the federal funding is removed and the people who are the producers in the state up and leave due to the communist corruption that exists, the state will fold under its own weight and come running back to beg to enter the Union again.

See, CA receives a lot of its services from other states and when it is no longer a state and becomes a separate country, all the rules change. That is, no longer does Nevada have to honor its reservoir and power contracts (sorry CA, but you don't get to throw a tantrum, run away and expect everything to stay the same). There are also numerous other issues that come up (costs, processes, etc...) that CA has been riding the back of the feds and the US on. They will quickly find that they weren't ready for such.

Point is, let them. They have every right to, but in the case of CA, they are idiots and it will be amusing to watch them fall on their face.

Most of them do a pretty good job of that all on their own. Looked at the murder rate in Chicago or DC lately?

It's sort of ironic. Before the election I was worried about what was going to happen when Hillary won. I figured a lot of Trumpettes, the ones chanting 'lock her up', were not going to accept it. And after all, they are the ones with all the guns. They were the ones with deep mistrust of government, who felt ignored and mistreated and talked about the need for a revolution.

But surprise, Trump won. So now its progressives who are weeping and gnashing their teeth. But these are not the type of people to start an armed insurrection. They might protest or write some scathing editorials. What, are you afraid that a bunch of women wearing pink ribbons to the inauguration are going to bring on a civil war?

What is your point? That ignorance is a virtue?

Cannot disagree with that.
Just saying it did not start over Slavery. It started because States did not agree with the federal law being enforced on them.

Today we have universities, cities and even entire states, declaring the same thing, over different circumstances and objectives.
