If you're looking forward to 2018, you shouldn't be. Republicans don't need to do much campaigning in order to maintain the current status quo.

No one has the slightest idea what the 'current status quo' will be at election time and we all have our own speculations, given the last two weeks I'd say Dems should be optimistic.

Why? Democrats have to defend at least 10 seats in Trump-friendly territory. The Republicans can afford to lose 2 Senate seats and still be in the majority (with the help of the President of the Senate, Mike Pence).
