We've been talking about Cochlear Implants on the H&W area and I was telling them
my adult daughter went thru sudden hearing loss (SHL) and her loss was from a
cocktail of drugs including vicodin. Then someone mentioned Rush L and his hearing
loss and blamed it on years of being on the radio blah blah..
I heard about his pain pill addiction years ago. What say YOU.
Massive vicodin overdose deafened Limbaugh in the late 1990s. I remember when he was going deaf; like a lot of deaf folks, the pitch of his voice changed.
I believe he shook the addiction, but the damage was done. Apparently, once he's home and done with the show these days, Limbaugh turns off his implants and enjoys the silence.
Hmm, I didn't know the connection between hearing loss and drug abuse.
Sounds plausible to me.
Vicodin damages the cochlea in the ear. Anyone who has chronic ringing in the ears has similar damage. It's a nerve problem, not so much physical damage.
Certain medications can damage the ear, resulting in hearing loss, ringing in the ear, or balance disorders. These drugs are considered ototoxic.
There are more than 200 known ototoxic medications (prescription and over-the-counter) on the market today. These include medicines used to treat serious infections, cancer, and heart disease.
Limbaugh turned himself in to authorities on a warrant filed Friday charging him with fraud to conceal information to obtain prescriptions, said Teri Barbera, a spokeswoman for the Palm Beach County Jail. He and his attorney Roy Black left about an hour later, after Limbaugh was photographed and fingerprinted and he posted $3,000 bail, Barbera said.
I don't know if Limbaugh still has an addiction problem these days but his speaking voice has definitely deteriorated through the years. Sometimes he sounds like he's struggling. Hard to listen to now. He used to be a real radio pro. Smooth delivery. Good sense of timing. Now he sounds like he's on something.
rush is still taking pain meds for a medical issue that causes him severe pain daily. oxycontin dulled the pain enough to let him go through life in as normal a manner as possible. and yes there is an operation that can end the pain, but there is the distinct possibility that if he goes through the operation he could lose his voice due to how the operation would have to proceed. he has decided that until he decides to retire, he will deal with the pain though medication.
Drug addiction to pain medication is a huge problem in the US. That's how Rush started and got addicted. It only takes a couple of doses of some of the pain killers to get addicted to, and once that happens it's almost impossible to pull away from it. Just look at Hollywood (actors and actresses) if you want to see junkies
That said, I can care the least if Rush used drugs or not. That's not going to change my mind about he being the best at what he does on the radio for the past 25+ years. Nobody out there can even come close to the way he forecasts political outcomes. It's possible that Tiger Woods, at least what I have read on the news, is fighting prescription drug addiction. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017...n-painkillers/
