Let's not obfuscate the issue - who is really bringing transgender issues to the forefront of the national conversation? It mostly is not the transgender people themselves. I'll give you a hint - North Caroline has a lot to do with this.

Maybe you should get upset at the correct target for having to endure such a difficult discussion?

Right an estimated 0.4% of the population yet the bathroom wars were such a big deal with the last administration.

Trump comes in and three weeks later the Intel plant in Chandler, Az is back in business and my property value will likely go up.

Transgender bathrooms, BLM, the Women's march... Rock on with the right on.

But what I am concerned with is the economy.

You think transgender people haven't been using the bathroom that aligns with their identity for decades? Where have you been? Obama has nothing to do with this.

It's actually quite a testament that people (such as yourself, or the person making the joke) didn't realized that this was happening before. All this time, transgender people using bathrooms that align with their gender identity, and no issues. But yet, somehow North Carolina thinks this is a severe issue that needs to be dealt with immediately.

Why?

If only we legislators could stop trying to pass unnecessary bills in regards to gender identity. Then maybe we could stop arguing about this non-issue and talk about the real issues (such as the economy, like you mention).

You were correct (not counting the Obama comment) until you get to the part I've bolded.

The reason, the REAL reason this became an issue is because of two separate incidences. First the schoolboy in NY who identified as transgendered wanted access to the girls locker room and the school granted him that access much to the dismay of the 400 or so actual girls whose privacy, security and feelings were deemed not as important as the one boy's feelings. Second, the City of Charlotte passed an unnecessary (specifically because of what you cite) ordinance stating that people were free to use whichever bathroom they felt like.

The state of NC took ridiculous measures to combat the Charlotte law, and here we are debating something that I am pretty sure 99% of the .04% didn't ever have a problem with.

I apologize - you're correct. I strike that comment.

The Obama comment is definitely accurate - he has nothing to do with transgender people using the bathroom of their sexual identity. They have been doing this without issue for decades/centuries.

I'll maintain that this has remained in the national conversation much longer than it should have, and it almost entirely has to do with what happened in North Carolina. It really should have been something that we let go long ago.

Most people did not hear about the NY incident, and most people probably cared less about what happened in Charlotte (although they probably should have just left it alone). The reaction by the state legislature in NC made this is a national debate topic that we all now have to deal with. Even though, as you mention, it is a complete non-issue.

Presuming the stat is accurate, this is an important issue for why? Political advantage? This feeds the poor how? It addresses the high cost of healthcare in what way? Our national security is improved?
