So this week our company is observing Black History month and for lunch the menu is fried chicken, collard greens, grits, fried catfish.
I'm sure many think it's no big deal, I don't think it's bad. But some of my coworkers are getting all offended by it and getting vocal (within our group). And no, none of them are black.
Has this happened at any of your companies?
No.
That's fine, but you can't eat that for a whole week. I hope there are other choices!

Yes. We had a luncheon and it featured many of the above items along with peach cobbler and sweet tea and lots of good soul food that was catered. It was delicious. I am black and so is about 20% of our organization and we had a great lunch and the food was excellent and no one complained.
Having grown up in the north here: https://www.urscc.org/ and, therefore, not "lily white", add having lived in 3 southern states, add having been in the Air Force, add having worked for 8 years on an Army base with 2 of those in an Army dining facility working with 26 other cooks, 24 of them black males, and my best friend of more than 40 years being black, I would say that if you really don't know anything about blacks, it is better to just not discuss such things.
There are so many things posted that I have an issue with that I decided not to address them. Ignorance on steroids!
In my case, had we have been making this in the dining facility during Black History Month, I am sure I would have gotten a wink and a "Let me guess, watermelon for dessert." to which I would have replied "Yeah, I know." and rolled my eyes.

I always complained when the only thing we had for breakfasts was bagels.
