These are strange times we live in when you hear something like "alternative facts" and know that such a saying isn't a joke to a huge swath of the public. We use to have a country that at least could eventually agree on many of the big things. Is that now toast? What unites our country anymore?

Alternative facts, are just different facts, a divergent basis to work from. We are one country, who experienced the rule of a divider who promised to be a uniter. It will take a while for the Obama hangover to be fixed.

Different facts? A divergent base? That's the alternative reality I'm talking about. A fact IS a fact not an opinion. Facts can not be created either. They exist regardless of whether you believe them or not. Facts should be the basis of informed opinion. Creating alternative facts or different facts can only lead to alternative reality, or what most people call fantasy. Plus blaming this on Obama is a canard. This division existed before him and well after him. Maybe you should blame your hangover on alcohol abuse first.

Hate to break it to you but people agree or disagree no more or less than in the past. The difference today is people can do their own echo chambers on the net and news is 24/7 and readily available.

Couldn't be truer. We just have the information faster and in abundance. No different than it's ever been.

The United States of America has been a bit of an aspirational title from the very beginning.

That may be true but what's one of the first rules of computer programming? Garbage in, garbage out. Information is only as good as the quality of it.
