Seems that most of these are non-political foreign service officers that have served under multiple administrations. They could, in actuality, be Trump supporters themselves.
To me, we are slowly witnessing a dismantling of anything non-partisan (not just at State Department) and will see a replacement with highly partisan supporters in all areas. It's a very slow moving disassembly of the our long-standing government.
That has also been my understanding, that many had been with the State department going back to at least George W. Bush. However, I also read that many are actually being moved to other jobs within the government. We shall see.
I did find it rather appalling that Dr. Ben Carson's aide, whom had written an opinion piece back in the fall that was critical of Mr. Trump, was summarily fired and immediately escorted out of the building, all without the knowledge of Dr. Carson, whom learned of the firing while enjoying lunch. Dr. Carson trusted this person, but Trump did not.
I read somewhere they are not passing the clearance. so are they doing new checks, normally it is only every 5 years, ? or are they going in there and revoking clearances on small details ? Debt, or some small infraction ? I see German movies in my head, gestapo police raiding offices ... Brrr
So not posting positions on usajob site like every other fed job??? And the hiring freeze, does not apply? Where is OPM???
I don't know. He's an IT consultant with a somewhat unusual skill set who's held a top secret clearance in the past (although I'm fairly certain that it's now expired). Maybe some sort of exemption? It's the second call he's gotten in a couple of weeks for a federal job. He wasn't interested in pursuing either of them, so he didn't ask any probing questions to find out more.

The people being let go/reassigned are excepted employees who can be fired at any time. The background screening issue is a separate one. Many of the *new* people brought on never passed an initial background screen and now it's being found out that they have issues that prevent them from passing at all.
It's not uncommon for new agency heads to come in and clean house, but it's pretty uncommon for them to summarily fire entire departments of people who have been there for decades all at one time. That's not to say it doesn't happen, but in many cases it will happen more slowly and in a more insidious manner. I know people who have been in departments that were wiped out, but it took 2-3 years for it to happen, not 1 day, because then you have a department where people have no institutional knowledge. At least if you take 2-3 years, there are a couple old people who institutional knowledge that you retain long enough to get the new people trained.

It could be trimming of fat, it could be removing Obama loyalists, it could be a whole lot of things but I guess what it is at this point is wholly dependent on one's view of our president and if you hate him or not.
Yep, the world is going to end..... Head for the bunkers...
