I actually read the article. I fail to see what you're excited about other than thanking Trump for something that's even done before. Two hundred marines? That's like pi$$ing in the wind.
They're providing support to "friendly ground forces". I don't see what's the big deal since they don't even know which faction is going to invade Rakka in order to retake it. How many times have we had and lost Raqqa?
What I find disheartening is the following sentence from the article: "A small number of U.S. troops is currently in the Syrian town of Manbij to keep the peace between the Kurdish and Turkish forces." Really?
When are going to learn that is best to let these people kill each other?

In all fairness, the Artillery guys are there. Better than special forces, special forces are not Captain America. I have had so many friends with force recons, many of them didn't make it.
Artillery guys might do some real damages. I wonder if the India Battery 3/12 is there. These are some legendary war fighters.
Artillery is a class of large military weapons built to fire munitions far beyond the range and power of infantry's small arms

What an interminable mess.
As good a plan of action as any other we've come up with.
We are talking about American politics here. Even non-interventionism is not reality.
Don't get me wrong, I agree with you, but reality is reality.
So between Trump and Hillary, Trump's war will be quick. Well, in my opinion.
The reality is that ISIS cannot be destroyed as explained upthread by another poster.
They can only be contained.
ISIS is like a pest and the only way to eliminate ISIS is to kill every man, woman and child that's Muslim in this world. Every Koran must be destroyed as well. There's 1.9 billion of them. We're not going to do that.
This country successfully fought two wars during WWII. We fought the Germans in Europe and the Japanese in the Pacific. However, we had 70% income tax rates and rationing at home. IOW, we were serious about fighting and winning. We did everything it took to fight and win.
After 9/11, we were told not to worry our pretty little heads about a thing and to go shopping. To win, you have to give it your all. I don't see that happening.
We shall observe Trump and keep track of his war.
