The issues isn't about being anti immigrant....this is a crime that could have been prevented with common immigration policy and enforcement. These guys never should have been here and this crime never should have happened.
In Cananda you have to prove your worth to move there. The US should be the same. They always say well the US was built on immigrants....yeah those that could function in a work environment. US turned away thousands before and it still should.
It's not all that complicated despite your claims to the contrary. Remove the ability for illegal aliens to work or get any social services and the majority of the problem ends and those still here will either get legal or self deport.

Remove the cheap (slave) labor and wages will rise or, the companies will figure out how to automate as much of it as they can.
Then why won't companies figure out a way to automate now? Why didn't they do that in the first place before even hiring illegal immigrants?

They are in fact working on automating many of the labor intensive jobs. Robots are currently very close to doing menial tasks and I'd fully expect huge advances in the next few years.

And roofing, painting, landscaping, construction? All of these used to pay a decent wage.
