The US has the biggest baddest military in the world but that doesn't make Trump a "leader". Leadership and respect are earned. The world sees Trump as a dangerous buffoon.
I guess this makes 2 Presidents in a row with this problem then.
Leader of the Free World[edit]
The "Leader of the Free World" is a colloquialism, first used during the Cold War, to describe either the United States or, more commonly, the President of the United States of America. The term when used in this context suggests that the United States is the principal democratic superpower, and the U.S. President is by extension the leader of the world's democratic states, i.e. the "Free World". The phrase has its origin in the late 1940s and became more widely used in the early 1950s. It was heavily referenced in American foreign policy up until the dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991, and has since fallen out of use, in part due to its usage in rhetoric critical of American policy.[5]
The use of the phrase is not exclusive to American leaders. Upon her being declared the 2015 Time Person of the Year, Time proclaimed German Chancellor Angela Merkel to be the "Chancellor of the Free World."[6] Following 2016 United States presidential election, Merkel has been widely ascribed the title of "leader of the free world" by opinion pieces in the American news media, following the diminution of worldwide respect for the office of the President after the election of Donald Trump.[7][8][9]
Seems like whichever world leader meets with Trump, that they immediately become the new leader of the world for a few minutes. He makes everybody look good. Trump is good for making other leaders look good, and that's a good thing. Who could say that isn't a good thing?
Good. Germany can be the world's police and the majority donor to the UN.
I'm sick of our overextended role. Bring our troops and cash home.
