Possibly the ones that don't realize we have 3 branches to our government? The ones that don't know that entering the US without authorization makes one a criminal? I mean, seriously, look at some of the posts here.

Also, this comment was made in September 2016. I guess the libs are running out of new material. I pity them, staying up through the night looking for something to twist to try to offset the awesome job Trump is doing. Big job for small minds.

I'll bet if you walk out of your home and office right now and asked 20 people, "Was Lincoln a Democrat or Republican?" more than half would get it wrong.

Not quite accurate. It'd be more accurate to call him an abolitionist-lite. He always deeply disagreed with slavery, but was willing to tolerate it in order to preserve the union. This fact is a big part of why Maryland, Kentucky and Missouri never seceded. But ultimately, he always wanted to end slavery -- and he proves it because he did.

Yup I did this awhile ago. Some self claimed "smart people" got it wrong, couldn't even tell me what years approximately he was President. One guy who has a MBA from a pretty good school(UW) said, "1700s?"

Also all this talk about Lincoln hated black people, etc. Think about the time, he was at the time a positive force for African Americans. You couldn't just be a politician and come out and say "blacks are equal" people would never vote for you. Whether he meant it or NOT, he had to approach black freedom in steps.

This is correct.

In fact most people were somewhat ambivalent to slavery, perhaps not liking it but not thinking of it on very personal terms.

Some opponents to the expansion of slavery were actually concerned that slave owners would bring African Americans into their states. The injustice of the institution was not necessarily the greatest factor in their opinion.

Mr Lincoln was very insightful. He realized that if one race or ethnic group could be legally enslaved then all people of any background were in some danger of a similar fate. It was a bigger issue than most Americans realized, but Lincoln could see it.

He was treated badly by his own father, including being 'rented out' to neighbors for labor against his will. He didn't get the money, his father did. The injustice of it stung him with bad memories he carried all his life.

Freeing slaves, giving them a vote and property rights was a very liberal concept for those days. A liberal tradition in the Republican party lasted until the 1960's or 1970's. I remember that.

There were what was called 'progressive Republicans' too. Teddy Roosevelt would probably be considered one. The conservative wing of the party expanded and drove the liberals all out after they absorbed all of those southern conservative democrats largely through Nixon's southern strategy.

The Republican party has changed almost completely from Lincoln's time. The only consistent feature from then until today is support of big business.

Literally everyone knows that. The ones who didn't, probably just didn't care and aren't talking about politics in the first place.

Who didn't know Lincoln was a Republican?

Every single Democrat who actually has a conscience and/or a soul.

For those posters in here who don't know me well, I've been giving a history lesson on this very topic since before the election... Just about every time a lefty starts to attempt to fling the KKK card on us.

I'd guess that if you did on the street interviews, around 40% of the people would get it wrong.

Have you ever seen the on the street interview? Lots of ignorant people out there.
