A woman I know applied, went on the list and years after she passed away a letter came notifying her that a place was available.

With the health insurance requirements being what they are, they don't want even potential liabilities in that area. Thus, all the "adapt and overcome you lazy so and so's". Vetrans missing limbs are making it happen", stuff doesn't take into account that these are younger people, and veterans can also get special consideration as well. When you're over 50, physically disabled with chronic conditions and not a vet, it's a game changer.
Agreed.

I'm over 50 and, my body's really starting to get bad.

People tell us our old kind need to retrain and so on; the problem is many employers WON'T even look at us if talking a brand new career AND having the schooling for it.

So, once Trump starts with-holding the payments that make the ACA viable..what happens to all those 50+ men and women?

That's only about 4% of the U.S. population. It seems to be more prevalent in some areas.

The article refers to people in counties where Trump did very well. In fact, in Lamar County AL, Trump got 84% of the vote!
Seems possible these people want jobs and not welfare. President Trump ran on creating jobs, not welfare. Hillary was running on more free stuff for everyone.

No one below 60 should be on disability for a hurt leg or back, we all have something hurting after 40.

I'd agree but; blue collar work CAN tear up a person pretty bad. Especially much over about 55 years old. Too; not all of us out there are "college material", like me.

You have been misinformed.

Clinton ran on job training, infrastructure, health insurance... job creation

She is not perfect, but she definitely didn't run on "getting free stuff for everyone." That's RW BS.

By 55, those doing physical labor are slowing down. Bad backs, bum knees, rotator cuff injuries, ... take their toll.

Some move on to being foreman, estimators, and other jobs requiring knowledge and skills but less physical labor.

Of the rest, I would say few are "college material."

So what is there outside of disability benefits?

I'm over 50. My insurance will continue as is but maybe my premiums will decrease since our remaining carrier wont be losing those millions thru the ACA.

Even the government makes the distinction between older 50+ and younger adults in regards to employment. The current definition of a working age adult without dependents for purposes of programs which have work requirements exempts 50+ from the requirement.
