Memphis was a violent city before Prohibition, and got worse during it. 1926. Memphis had a murder rate of 42.4 murders per 100,000. Memphis wasn't even the worst of the worst. Jacksonville,FL was. It had a murder rate of 76.9 murders per 100,000. Next on the list were Tampa,FL and Birmingham,AL that year. 67.6 and 58.8 per 100,000 respectively. Chicago, for all its reputation for violence, had a murder rate of 16.7 murders per 100,000 in 1926.

Of course it is....I don't know why people refuse to believe that...they deny that crime has been on the upswing....when you talk with law enforcement, they will tell you. And, cities hide crime, b/c they want tourists to come and spend money, one of Philly's mayors was caught doing so.
Obama has a lot of free time now when he is not giving expensive speeches to Wall Street or heading to Italy to tell them how bad America and Trump is when it comes to global warming...
Why can't Obama go back to Chicago, back to his roots of community organizing and set these gang bangers straight?
He could offer them HOPE and CHANGE through a few speeches then head off again on vacation.

He fails to mention that violent crime peaked in the mid 80's- early 90's throughout the US and substantially declined thereafter and did so despite municipalities using very different strategies or no strategy
CPD confiscated more than 8000 weapons in 2016, most in the 5/25 Police Districts with the most violent crime. The state, not the city, determines Minimum Sentencing Laws and parole which are lax compared to NY state.
This particular incident happened at 5:30 PM. Both the shooting of Cardova and now this, are gang related.
It is reasonable to wonder how many people Cordova might have shot/ killed.

This is exactly why we need to ban guns. there is just no reason for this.
If you're being sarcastic, I get the joke. If you're not, explain this. Vermont and Wyoming are on opposite sides of the political spectrum. Both states have some very lenient guns laws. Both states have low rates and crime, low rates of unemployment, and very little, if any, gang problems compared to alot of places. Blaming guns is a cop out. If guns werent' used, knives, machetes, bats, and even cars would be used for killing.

There is another thing that never gets pointed about about NYC. Gentrification. Alot of gang members likely got priced out of NYC and headed for New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania.
