That quote is meaningless without knowing the question asked.
If the above quote relates to the investigation of Russian influence on the election and investigation into Trump campaign people, then that quote is meaningless because no one is asserting that Trump ORDERED or ASKED that the investigation end.
If that quote relates into the investigation into Flynn, then it only bears out the Comey memo. He was NOT TOLD TO STOP. He was asked and or politely requested to "overlook."
Either way - he was never told to or ordered to STOP.
There IS a difference.
WORDS MATTER - especially when dealing with Donald Trump.
I've never viewed the Comey memo on that conversation as an obstruction of justice. The conversation signaled a possible Trump intent or wish, but never an order.
The subsequent firing of Comey most certainly did indicate intent - to which Trump admitted.
Context is everything (the transcript from the May 3rd Senate testimony):
Quote:
HIRONO: So if the Attorney General or senior officials at the Department of Justice opposes a specific investigation, can they halt that FBI investigation?
COMEY: In theory yes.
HIRONO: Has it happened?
COMEY: Not in my experience. Because it would be a big deal to tell the FBI to stop doing something that -- without an appropriate purpose. I mean where oftentimes they give us opinions that we don't see a case there and so you ought to stop investing resources in it. But I'm talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason, that would be a very big deal. It's not happened in my experience.
Comey's answering a question about if he had knowledge of the Department of Justice halting an an FBI investigation for political reasons.
Does his answer mean that President Trump never leaned on James Comey regarding the investigation into General Flynn's purported ties to foreign agents? Only if you're really, really desperate to see it there.
You leave out most of the quote. This is some Fox News level contortion.
lol
