Why bother. 144 students will walk out. Why bother attending. I believe in freedom of speech and expression but why don't they do something really meaningful, such as a petition. As a parent I would be appalled after spending $$$ for this person to attend college. Sad to think these same students are supposed to be productive people in America.
Perhaps these students who paid for and worked hard for their education there, want to hear what the other speakers have to say.
It's not that they are college students, it's that the vast majority of them have no real life experience. They've never paid taxes while raising a family. They've never operated a business. They've never dealt with permitting.
I am guessing you never went to college, let alone one that is so highly ranked academically.
I personally feel it's extremely poor decorum and also disrespectful to any of their fellow students however who see Commencement as an extremely important hard-earned day in their lives and don't deserve the chaotic and disruptive environment that this "protest" will create. Attention-seeking behavior at the expense of everyone in attendance.
I agree. A better move would be to simply not attend commencement.
College, especially one so highly ranked, requires high self-discipline, hard work, self-sacrifice, and commitment to complete a degree.
Once I graduated, real life was comparatively easy. Mind you, I am in a profession that is considered very high stress also.
However, it requires very little real world experience. Combine that with age....
Being intelligent and hard working does not provide life experience.
