I keep reading this term 'toxic masculinity' and don't have a clue what it means. Educate me.

First I've ever heard the term. And I'm pretty liberal. And live in the Bay Area. And am in Berkeley, of all places, all of the time.

Where are you (on the Internet?) where this is coming up so frequently for you?

Sounds like you have seen that new "Axe" commercial.

Basically its this idea that in order to be a real man, you have to be tough, like sports, carry a certain demeanor, etc. Basically you have to be the alpha-male jock type or you aren't a "real man" and are gay or a sissy.

Well, according to Geek Feminism Wiki (that exists, apparently), it's when elements of patriarchy are harmful to men. I'm guessing an example would be something like a group of guys making fun of one guy who doesn't like sports sufficiently, or something.

This was a HUGE issue for me growing up as I am a guy and I could care less about sports. I was teased and belittled for it all the way into my late twenties. People wondered how I could be a self-respecting guy and not care about football.

A phrase liberals use to describe anyone who can beat up Richard Simmons.

"Toxic masculinity" is postmodernist drivel designed to deflect critique of feminist cultural Marxism.

What are the traits or hallmarks of 'toxic masculinity'? I am sincerely asking this question.

Men are violent. They like power and sex. They need to visit the men's safe spaces at Brown University and...

BWell is investing in creating safe spaces for men to unpack all of the things they have learned about masculinity and what it means to be a man. The goal is to help those socialized as men to unlearn some of the notions that have led to such profound harm being enacted toward others and toward themselves.
