Are you suggesting that your grandson would buy liquor at a liquor store if it were near his school?
Wow!
You are absolutely correct and that's why we have laws that prohibit children from buying these products regardless of where the stores are located.
Not really. Dems on this board claim over and over that the group fighting the war on marijuana is religious conservatives. These Detroit zoning laws are an example of how that is totally false. Dems in Detroit clearly are making marijuana sales more difficult with onerous zoning laws. That's their way of fighting the war on marijuana.
Don't try to twist up what I said, I was real clear. I don't care what goes on inside those businesses, my concern is with the activity that takes place outside And stop your BS this isn't about marijuana laws at all, it's a back handed way to take a jab at democrats and it's one of the lamest attempts I've ever witnessed on these forums
There are no Detroit Republicans on the city council.
If you believe Republicans would not step up the war on marijuana, you are delusional. Only libertarian leaning ones like say the Pauls would do that. BOTH sides want a war on drugs. Neither side cares about tax revenue generated by legalization of marijuana, much less drugs in general.
Indeed, to legally operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Detroit requires said dispensary be located 1,000 feet away from schools, parks, libraries, day care centers, and churches. Oh, and liquor stores. A marijuana dispensary can't even be located within a thousand feet of another dispensary.
For the love of supreme irony, with all the deadly and addictive drugs from Big Pharma that chain drug stores sell, I bet they are perfectly legal to be across the street from each other or from a school. Nobody worries if a high school girl who was dumped is going to go across the street, purchase a big bottle or two of aspirin or sleeping pills and try to kill herself.
Republicans have absolutely no right to claim the high ground on marijuana legalization. In the statehouses, its the Republicans that are primarily responsible for keeping prohibition in place. Once we see GOP legislatures in red states legalizing marijuana, then you might be onto something, but for now, only blue states even have the hope of legalization, with the exception of Alaska.
Conservatives like Obama? He resisted it for eight years.
Nope. Obama at least tolerated pot from state programs. He could easily have stamped it all out but he backed off the DofJ and allowed medical and even recreational programs to be put in place.

A supporter? Certainly not. But opponent? Nope.
Obama led the war on marijuana for eight years. He could have easily removed it from Schedule I. But chose not to. In fact, when the Dems had total control over Congress they made no effort to stop the war on Marijuana.
No high ground for Obama and the Dems. Just like the Reps. Remember, it was Rand Paul (R) who introduced a bill to stop Obama's war on marijuana.
