Second, the supposed "surveillance video" shows a lit up service hallway at 2:00 am in the hotel. If you know anything about NK, you would know they have brown outs constantly. The empty service hallways of a hotel would not be lit up at 2:00 am. The figure is only a shadow and the video is taken at a vantage point of a person standing in the middle of the hallway meaning the surveillance video was most likely shot by a person. Most surveillance cameras are positioned above head height from a wall. https://www.nknews.org/2015/05/light...energy-crisis/

That poor young man was set up and taken as a political prisoner.
Where do you get he was set up? Is there information somewhere? I found nothing.

I feel for the poor family. An awful situation, and horrible what was done to him.

Have to agree with every post jojan has written in this thread. I'm hoping the people saying things like "don't break the law in another country" are just saying it out of ignorance. North Korea has a long history of taking Americans as political prisoners. That is almost certainly what happened in Warmbier's case. The regime then sent a vegetable back to his parents. Those of you defending it and/or blaming Warmbier should be ashamed.

I don't think his brain was functioning when he made the decision to visit North Korea.

It was not a wise decision, but it shouldn't be a deadly one.

Watch the video and use some critical thinking. One only sees a shadowy figure take down a rigid sign and set it on the floor. How could anyone tell who that shadow was?

Why would anyone think they could take a rigid (most likely metal) sign about five feet wide onto a plane?

The lights are on bright in a service hall of the hotel at 2:00 am! Not likely in Pyongyang. They have a severe problem with electricity shortages. https://www.nknews.org/2015/05/light...energy-crisis/

Finally, the vantage point of the "surveillance video" is from the middle of the hallway about head height. Most surveillance cameras are installed above head level on a wall which would show the alleged crime from above the shadow's head and either from the front angle or the back angle.

Why should Obama have cut a deal when he very clearly violated their laws? Moderator cut: race baiting
His idiot parents probably raised him to be a liberal....you know everyone loves liberals right? You can go to places like North Korea because they see just how enlightened these kids are.

Leave medical interpretation to the medical experts.

Doctors caring for released North Korea detainee Otto Warmbier said he has not spoken or moved on his own since he arrived in the United States on Tuesday, a condition they described as "unresponsive wakefulness" or persistent vegetative state.

The 22-year-old has suffered extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain, doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a news conference Thursday.
Also known as persistent vegetative state, the syndrome's symptoms include no voluntary movement or awareness of surroundings. Warmbier opens his eyes and blinks spontaneously but shows no signs of understanding language or responding to verbal commands, said Dr. Daniel Kanter, professor of neurology and director of the Neurocritical Care Program.

Same response as when Reagan got when the Iran Hostages were freed after being imprisoned during the Carter administration. So North Korea is as nutty as Iran? So what else is new?

The hate and anger shown by so many in our country is disheartening.....
The crime is Vandalism. Look up the maximum sentence your state would give for this crime. Otto's wealthy parents would have gotten a high end lawyer and paid whatever restitution came up. They sure had no problem paying the $60,000 out-of-state tuition to go to UVA and the $1000's for his trip to Asia.

When it comes to hate posting on the net, don't even dare to place yourself on a pedestal. Those of us who've been here for many years have seen and read your hate posts against other countries and religions.

University of Virginia student Otto Warmbier has been medically evacuated from North Korea in a coma after being detained for 17 months,

He was charged with “hostile acts against the state,” [stealing a poster] and after an hour-long trial in March 2016, he was sentenced to 15 years in prison with hard labor.

He had not been seen in public since. Swedish diplomats, who represent U.S. interests in North Korea because the United States has no diplomatic relations with the country, were denied access to him.

The Warmbiers were told that he contracted botulism soon after his trial and was given a sleeping pill, from which he never woke up.

There is no way of knowing yet whether the North Korean version of events is true,
Does it really matter what version is released?

He went to NK, broke their law, and was sentenced under their law.

It is a shame that they killed him (my understanding is that he is not too far from brain death), but as the right likes to quote when speaking of BLM and other things like extra-judicial cop killings. "That's what happens"; or as they are fond of saying "Play stupid games, win stupid prizes."

No, I don't feel the same as they. I think that if there was a justice system in place, they should not let NK get away with this... but their is none, and the man should have known better than to break the law in a totalitarian state where Americans are the "enemy." In my opinion, if he had been smart, he would never have set foot in that twilight zone of a country.
