It's also the fact that this dude was able to get close enough to elected officials to do it.
What does that mean? Should elected officials be taken out of public life? From my understanding he did have bodyguards and that's why they apprehended the shooter so quickly.
I agree that many public figures are inciting violence. It's pretty sick what they are getting away with in the name of comedy.
My husband and I just discussed the *same* thing. It's possible that he showed up ready to kill regardless of whom was on the field. Speculation at this point is pretty pointless.
I'm a little jarred by the eyewitness account of Scalise dragging himself 50 feet through the dirt, leaving a trail of blood. This is just shocking.

where did you hear that? that is shocking.
nvm, think I found it.
Mo Brooks: 'And my understanding is that's where our security detail ... took him down. At which point, once we got the all clear that the shooter was down, we ran out to second base, where Steve Scalise, he had crawled into the outfield, was leaving a trail of blood.'
Do they know it was the shooter who asked or was it someone asked and people assume it was the shooter?
Good question. Initial reports are often wrong.
The Republican Team has been practicing at this park most mornings for the past month. It's common local knowledge. One would assume the shooter would have been aware of this.
Had no leadership been present, there would not have been a Capital Police presence and thus a massacre would have ensued, according to Rand Paul.
This means -- if it was the shooter -- he had planned to shoot them regardless -- he didn't know which 'team' they played on but showed up with a gun anyways.
That's my conclusion.

If the shooter didn't care who it was - why even ask? He would just start firing away.
They had been coming to practice for two months. He probably already knew who it was, and wanted to make sure.

I guess that's a possibility - OR it could be that he wanted to make sure he and the "right" targets.
About 25 members of the Republican Congress were at the practice field. Lucky that a bunch of them were in the dugout and some at the battling cage on the other side of the fence. The shooter was mobile, trying to find better shots. He was there to kill.
Rep Roger Williams of Texas was also shot.
Correction - it was Williams aid that was shot.

Reason: Correction
Jeff Flake, AZ (R) reported that is what he saw before he was able to run out and help him.
According to reports this was an attack targeted at Republicans.
