I own a gun to protect my home and family in the event that we're threatened by an intruder who is stronger or armed. While the chances of such a scenario are very small, so is the possibility of your home burning to the ground, but you still have fire insurance - even though you don't "need it".
There plenty of valid reasons to own a firearm. The anti-gun crowd is fighting a losing battle when they try to argue otherwise.
Irrational hysteria is never a good foundation for a debate.

Been saying for a long time now that the biggest supplier of arms to criminals is the US government. And these guns weren't even stolen like most. Just handed over. Why not apply the same logic of training/time period as we do for driving to gun ownership.
First of all driving is a privilege, not a right. Secondly, driving is far more dangerous than owning and even carrying firearms. And thirdly the analogy is not silly. More people died by words than guns by a long shot. Hitler never shot anybody, yet with his words he managed to kill 6 million Jews and millions of other people. So if we're to have restrictions on fundamental rights then we should start with the 1st.
Too many guns on the street. Too late to get control of them now. Soon they will be wearing them with a holster like the Wild West.
