I sure hope this works. It's about time a different method is used.
For years where I live criminals from Chicago have been coming here and settling in.
Our two big cities are seeing huge increases in crimes.
I like that there are going into Chicago , but I hope they do it in a manner that doesn't send the criminals fleeing to other cities!!
Authorities confirmed Thursday to The Chicago Sun-Times about 20 additional agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been sent to the city.
Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions appeared to confirm Friday that the federal government is sending help, while decrying the crime epidemic on the city's streets.
"Crime and killings in Chicago have reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help. 1714 shootings in Chicago this year!" Trump tweeted.
We’ll have an impact in reducing shootings in Chicago,” he said, while saying police there are “demoralized” and city policies are not working.
There has always been feds in Chicago. It's interesting that the new bill in Congress will deny law-enforcement related federal funds to cities like Chicago, so in that sense this is odd. Maybe they are trying to make a statement, before pulling out completely.
I lived in chicago for over 20 years. Born and raised on the southside. Heck. A cop was killed on the block I lived on... I also have 3 family members on chicago PD. They say its hell on the streets... Chicago really just needs to bulldoze all the projects and start over. I had jury duty at cook county courthouse on California... I never seen sooooo many people in a courthouse.. had to be thousands .. a few feds won't make a difference.....
They really need to imprison people longer with violent crimes. Typically cook county release all non-violent drug offenders. The jails are so full , they only keep the worst in.

It's a different issue - those funds create a "loan shark" type of agreement where local police would be subject to the feds.
I think Trump is trying to break that up.
That's all I will say on that , just to stay on subject.
As a native Chicagoan, I have no problem with the feds attempting to crack down on gun violence in the city, and to prosecute to the fullest extent of the law people who use guns in crimes. Guns are a scourge on the nation and I support any measures that would address that problem, such as their plan to go after gun traffickers and putting them behind bars as well. We have a gun problem in this country that dwarfs the pretend "Muslim problem" but no one on the right ever wants to talk about that. I'll take whatever we can get at this point.
Sorry if that just ruined your usual "slam the lefties" narrative.
It's NOT the guns: many people carry here in Arizona and, shootings ain't real common unless a burglar and so on gets shot.

When I lived in the KC area, they did bulldoze a housing project. It was so dangerous the PO would not deliver mail there and an ambulance had two police cars for an escort. Two officers went in with the EMTs and two guarded the equipment.
That depends on the strategies they are bringing with them. Or, it could be just the start of something larger.
The willingness of the people backing them to resolve the issue is also important. That was missing with the hometown hero White Sox fan.
Yes, I m guessing it is just the start.
Backing and supporting ALL involved to combat the situation there is very important.
