Many Americans, if not most, have no clue about Asian immigration. They can't locate Angel Island on a map, much less define its significance, and have no clue about the Chinese Exclusion Act. As far as they're concerned, every immigrant who entered the U.S. was met with open arms at Ellis Island.

Most immigration is dominated by people from Mexico, Central, and South America..sure, they're the closest countries, but that's beside the point.

Why don't lefties the self proclaimed kings of diversity have a problem with this? Where's the diversity? Why not give Muslim women an extra dice roll bonus boost on the green card lottery or something? Pretty amazing to me that so many lefties have no problem with the current system. There's clearly an agenda.

Immigration has always been characterized by ebbs and flows from different parts of the world. It's no great surprise that today's pattern would be similar.

Assimilation has been going on for a loooonnngggg time even today. A lot of white patriotic Americans want immigrants to assimilate that's a generational mindset. You have a lot of white Americans who believe that america belongs to them and everyone else are people who were invited in. They hate seeing American being over ran By Brown Folks.

George Washington, believed that the best way to solve this “Indian problem†was simply to “civilize†the Native Americans. The goal of this civilization campaign was to make Native Americans as much like white Americans as possible by encouraging them convert to Christianity, learn to speak and read English, and adopt European-style economic practices. Trying to Strip these people of there culture the same thing they did to African Slaves.
Funny how you only tell one side of the story. The Amerindians were just as brutal to each other and they also killed many of the white settlers. There was no land ownership back then either so no land was stolen. That's all in the past anyway. Why do people like you choose to live in the past and bring it into the present?

I don't care about the fringe element or the sentiments of "some" white Americans. Most all Americans I know regardless of their race want immigrants to assimilate into our society. It has nothing to do with skin color but our identifying culture. So put your race card back in your wallet. Much of this migration by your so-called brown folks are here illegally also. That should be unacceptable to any Americans regardless of their race.

George Washington is long ago dead so why even bring him up? What was done back then is no more today. You must be joking if you think that Amerindian culture or any other minority cultures aren't alive in this country anymore. Who's trying to strip them of it? Expecting immigrants or anyone else living here to embrace our mainstream culture and assimilate into our society while not caring that they may also practice their own native cultures among themselves is a bad thing?

But that's why our government should diversify immigration. They have control over that themselves. In the past most immigrants came from Europe but there were the Italians, Germans, Poles, Brits, etc. Their cultures and languages were different from one another and that was diversity not like what we have today whom are mostly Latinos and of late more Asians. Too many from one ethnic/cultural group results in colonization not assimilation.

There is also great diversity in those parts of the world. Central America and Asia are not strictly homogenous cultures any more than your example of Europe.

Water flows a certain way too...it can still be controlled. When there's an agenda in regards to why it's "not" being controlled, there's a problem.

One of the key factors is that in traditional societies is people want to succeed so they don't bring shame to their family and nation. In contrast Americans view individuals as islands out being the lone ranger. A drug addict who lives off of welfare feels like they are bringing no shame to their family or community because their behavior only effects them. Another thing is that in less developed nations most people from childhood have some type of entrepreneurial experience like taking farm items down to the market and negotiating prices with customers. So immigrants come over here and see opportunities that Americans don't. A local example: last year a Somalian immigrant who started his own cab company was shot and paralyzed from the neck down in a robbery. The area he lives in is all dirt poor White and African American people who claim about their being no jobs. This man from one of the world's worst countries comes to the area and within months has a successful business.

I don't believe that is universally true of Americans regardless of ethnicity.

I don't think anything said in this thread is universally true... a lot of generalizations.
