What purpose does it serve?

How about a GOP senator putting party before a country?

How about serving notice to the Country that Trump is unstable and a danger?

How about Coker expressing his belief that this Country is in a perilous state under Trump?

Not everyone is in the tank for Trump or believes in giving this divisive and corrupt man carte blanche rule over us. You may kneel at the altar of Trump but those who believe in our democracy and institutions will not.

I doubt very seriously that it's love, but more like that old saying, the enemy of my enemy is your friend.

The dow went down today directly because of a situation involving Trump not just random volatility. We might have a 200 point up day next week but not if Trump keeps giving investors reasons to be concerned.

It just might be die hard Trump supporters who do not appear to be able see which way the wind is blowing. The more this trainwreck of an administration keeps flopping and flailing, the more they holler about it being everyone else's fault except Trump.

BTW, Corker supported trump PRE the convention. trump considered him for VP (corker withdrew his name from consideration, but remained very supportive of trump through the campaign). It's not like Corker came quickly to this assessment of President Bonkers. This is a GOP senator who WANTS trump to succeed. But as Chair of Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he sees the danger of having an incompetent President who is simply not up to the task.

This was back in june

"When asked “Senator Bob Corker recently said President Trump is ‘out of control’ and the ‘White House is in a downward spiral.’ Do you agree or disagree with Senator Corker?” only 20 percent of likely Tennessee GOP primary voters agreed. A huge 76 percent disagreed."

A new poll released by The Tennessee Star conducted of 1,007 likely Republican primary voters in Tennessee by Triton Polling and Research shows that Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN) may have trouble winning the nomination of his own party in its August 2018 U.S. Senate primary.

When asked “As of now, do you think Bob Corker deserves re-election or is it time to give someone else a chance? ” only 41.1 percent of likely Republican primary voters in Tennessee said he “deserves re-election.”

An equal number, 41.6 percent, said “give someone else a chance.”

Poll: Senator Bob Corker May Be In Trouble With Tennessee Republican Primary Voters – Tennessee Star
You're correct.
He and Alexander ticked many TN voters off when they voted to confirm DeVos when I know myself and others emailed him asking that he not do so. https://www.chalkbeat.org/posts/tn/2...-it-was-a-lot/
I've actually been watching a guy named James Mackler who announced he was running for Corkers seat.

Yup. Corker has some problems on the home front. Tennessean's like Donald Trump, but they aren't that fond of Corker.

"A recent poll conducted by Middle Tennessee State University confirms what The Tennessee Star Poll reported last month: President Donald Trump is by far the most popular elected official among Republican voters in Tennessee, and Senator Bob Corker (R-TN) is not particularly popular."

MTSU Poll: 77 Percent of Tennessee Republicans Trust President Trump, Only 40 Percent Trust Bob Corker – Tennessee Star

A politician in political trouble with his base will say all sorts of stupid stuff...it'll be interesting to see how they react this time. I suspect Corker's in serious political trouble.
