They constantly lie, steal, subvert, get involved in all manners of shady/illegal things that if it were your average joe/jane you'd be looking at life in prison if not execution. They can start wars, send people to die for the most BS of reasons and no matter how bad it was, no matter how many suffer and die due to it they're always allowed to simply say "Whoops, that sucks, at least I get to enjoy my mansion, perfect health care, oodles of money, and have the best life ever!".

Politicians can massively screw up in every way possible but in the end it never ends badly for them, they never have to worry about spending the rest of their lives in a prison cell with Bubba, losing everything they have, or any real negative consequences for anything they do, no matter how awful/evil/heinous it may be. We have these people that are supposed to represent us yet what incentive do they have to do what's right when no matter how awful they may be or no matter what evil deeds they may do they never have to worry about anything really bad happening to them due to it?

Sadly threads like this don't get a lot of play. Many here are too busy worrying about themselves to care about the people as a whole. They don't care for their fellow Americans anymore it's all about them.

Why?????

the media allows it to happen.

The media's powers surpass legislative law and can tople an innocent person or creat a president out of an inexperienced community organizer.

The media can remain silent as a president lies or destroy a president for misplaced preposition.

How can a senate head lie about a prez candidate and suffer no legal or moral consequence?

How can a prez candidate have a list of criminal behaviors noted by the head of the FBI and not be prosecuted?

how can the ghea dof the DOJ falsify a warrant to spy on a journalist and there be no legal or ethical consequences.

How? the media controls the mood of the country, and can choose to magnify an insignificant isssue, creat a false narrative and claim it is held by the majority or it can shine daylight into dark corners of the government.

Majority of the news media fully support the Democratic Party 100%. They do whatever they can to try to cover for Democrats. As for Republicans, they try to be more careful to not get caught but when they do they try to call in political favors or resign.

I think the reason why they do these things is power, elitism, and feeling they're above the law. The reason why they can so often get away with such things is they're like a fraternity. Though they oppose each other in public, they're still part of the same club and they have each other's secrets.

Because voters have terrible attention spans.

Simple.

Why aren't politicians held more accountable for their actions?

When you make the laws, it's easy to allow yourself 'outs'.

For example, insider trading is not illegal for Congressmen.

This is something I always say and it's usually just brushed off. You CAN'T hold them accountable because they have power over you. They don't "represent" you by bossing you around and taking your money, and you aren't in charge just because you can vote. Choosing a master doesn't make you the master.

The worst part is that people have been trying to solve that problem for literally thousands of years, and they still haven't learned. "We want this big powerful good guy - more powerful than any of us, where no bad guy can resist it - but we only want it to do what we want it to do."

Then, because the government is made up of corruptible human beings, and usually attracts the most slimy and dishonest people, they do bad things and people act confused.

Even worse is when people think "anti-corruption" laws or laws to "get money out of politics" will do anything. That's like telling the burglar to write down on paper that he isn't allowed to steal anything. Brilliant plan.

Long story short, you can't give people power over you and expect them to not take advantage of you.

It's because people don't hold them accountable.

There is no other reason.

People can deflect to whatever they want. The fact is; people don't do it. It's not money. It's not media. It YOU. And ME. And everyone else.
