The fact that a nuclear first strike does not end our power to retaliate in massive force is probably the best interceptor of all.

A hydrogen bomb's destruction is massive, but the N. Korean missile guidance systems are new, and mostly untested. A first strike from N. Korea could miss the target, and the damage in human life could not be as enormous in a miss. If it fell into the ocean, it would possibly be next to nothing in terms of the loss of human life.

Ours are all well tested, and experience counts. Our strike rate would probably be much higher, and they know it.
So do we wait for Kim to start launching warheads at us and say, "That one didn't hit us. Let's see what the next one does. Whoops, that one missed too but he's getting closer. Hmmm...that was pretty close, Whew! [BOOM Los Angeles is a mushroom cloud] Okay, that does it! Time to take out North Korea!"

I mean serious, is that how this plays out???????

That was just another boondoggle. People who knew physics said it would never work.

People really don't understand physics. They think it's some sci-fi star trek terminal with some guy sitting there:

General, we have a missile launch on the Korean peninsula.

Lock systems on Target

System locked general

Fire

Missile destroyed, sir.

Well done.

Reality of hitting a bullet traveling at several times the speed of sound with another bullet is incredibly difficult. The idea we were able to do this in the 80s like one suggested but some how lost the ability or have been sitting on it is

Short of NK doing anything to another country, shooting missiles in the ocean don't count, we should put away or world police siren and take care of our own **** back home.

China loves that NK is a thorn in our side. They just love it. The problem is is that now NK is doing things to to embarrass China and make them look like they are powerless over NK.

If China really wanted to they could stop all of this crap yesterday. All they have to do is stop trading with NK and NK would far apart, literally fall apart.

Well it isn't like we're going to just sit here and let him lob nukes at us. They're going to have their hands full with JDAMs and bunker busters raining down on them.

Or maybe just let him take out Los Angeles to give us an excuse.

I thought the Korean War never ended... why would there be a declaration of war if it never ended?

we never declared war on n. korea. the US hasn't had a declaration of war since WWII.

we've been under a "cease fire" agreement with n. korea since 1953.
