A lot of folks are left helpless when the electricity goes out. When it stays out for a long time, that helplessness can easily turn to frustration and anger.
It's hard to remember that those who are trying their best to get it up again are just as human as they are. Everyone reaches their limits when there's more work to do than people who can do it.
I knew a fellow who lived across the lake from New Orleans when Katrina hit. He was a transformer specialist; he serviced and repaired all the big high-power transformers that are used in hospitals, big commercial buildings, schools, etc.
He said getting the big ones back on line is the most important thing after a hurricane; once banks, hospitals and schools are back on, getting power back to the neighborhoods goes far faster. But after Katrina, people were so mad about the lack of power that they would throw rocks at the service truck he drove, and once, he had to be escorted by the police to work on a hospital transformer.
The people were really angry there because folks inside were dying from the lack of power. Logic would lead someone to think that once help was there, those in dire need would become patient enough to allow a hard long job to be done, but it wasn't the case for him. Those people didn't seem to care how long it would take to get the power back on- they wanted it done immediately.
He moved to Idaho afterward, and really liked it here, but Louisiana lured him back after a few years; he could make a lot more there than he could here, so he went back home. He's probably working his butt off again right now in Texas or Florida.
one person who doesn't have a hard job, if any at all- -- workers KNOW what taking a lunch means if working out in the sun-- it means : LIFE! - can't get a man on a pole with no food in him - but we are in the age of "NO FILTERS"
I'm beginning to think almost everyone should be on Xanax. Geez, so many Americans have zero patience and go right to violence when frustrated.
