Maria hit 9 days ago. Less than half of the Puerto Rico National Guard is on duty. |Washington Post - 9/29/17

When a natural disaster strikes in the United States, one of the first lines of defense in calming the chaos is typically the National Guard. The service advertises doing so as a core mission, telling prospective guardsmen and women that, as “citizen-soldiers,” they will be called upon to help friends and neighbors.

But nine days after Hurricane Maria, a striking trend has emerged: Less than half of the 8,000 members of the Puerto Rico National Guard are on duty.

Of the Puerto Rico Guard’s 8,000 members, some 2,750 are activated, said Kurt Rauschenberg, a National Guard Bureau spokesman. That number is growing by the day, but it illustrates a crucial difference in how states and territories responded to hurricanes this year.

In Florida, Gov. Rick Scott (R) activated all 7,000 members of the Florida National Guard before Hurricane Irma pummeled the state. In Texas, all 12,000 members were activated within two days of Hurricane Harvey coming ashore with Category-4 strength.

Should FEMA, the Military and President Trump have known in advance that these National Guard units would just stay home? Maybe. Should FEMA, the Military and President Trump have known in advance that the people in Puerto Rico would just stand and cry for help instead of making any attempt to help themselves or to even make basic preparations like Food, Water, Fuel? Maybe -- but that's certainly not the way that Stateside Citizens prepare for a Hurricane.

As for the Mayor of San Jose - she is a Democrat with close ties to Unions, TeamObama (Jim Messina) and Luis Gutierrez (he's the D-Rep Chicago who recently said they will shut down the Government if they don't get DACA in December). Mayor Cruz has a definite Agenda with the Leftists and didn't she look cute as she accused President Trump of "Genocide" while standing in front of those piles and piles of Water that she has ignored.

She must have taken a vow not to take a single sip of water until the President of the United States personally opens the bottle for her. Poor dear.
Oh I get it. She's a Democrat, so Puerto Ricans should rot. Sick.

Meanwhile, while Republicans votes against Sandy aid, Democrats voted for aid to Texas and Florida. This argument makes the right sound (more) pathetic.

The truth is that the San Juan Mayor is the one that attacked Trump first. Trump is responding back at her attacks. Every bit of what Trump said is true. The democrat mayor failed her city and now they try to blame Trump, the easy scapegoat. Trump has every right to point this out.

You haters are such a joke. Everyone that's not a hater can see right through your chicanery.
cool, where are you protests about the countless and endless anti everyone not trump threads.
everyday there are dozens of "opinion" or "thoughts" threads filled with hate and titled with lies.. so why when i scan your posts do i not see you protesting those threads?

Maybe you are just hyper partisan and are angry not everyone sees trump as a hero or savior ?

Maybe Puerto Rico should hire reporters to drive the trucks... they have no problem finding the port.

For me, both. Trump is a disgusting cretin ... however having followed Puerto Rican politics for as long as I have I also know Carmen Yulin is an opportunist and a rabble rouser always trying to incite divisions and tension. She's not a good woman. She's using this storm to further her political aspirations.

Plus only 20% of truck drivers reported back to work. They want big money to move the supplies.

Their mindset is that government is the end all be all.
There is no question that the roads outside the City are a mess, but in the Mayor's city - they have roads, they have trucks - they don't have drivers for the trucks (reminds you of Mayor Ray Nagin) - the drivers they do have won't drive without Security details to make sure they don't get shot (reminds you of New Orleans).
They have 2 Political Parties that can't get along or cooperate (reminds you of the USA) -- difference in Puerto Rico is that the Mayor of San Jose (#2 in her Political Party) doesn't have the smarts that the Governor has.

I'm sure he is not happy with the situation, but it's too late now to impress on his people that they HAVE to get to work and. help. He at least knows that the power grid is destroyed - it will be months before it's running, which means that NOTHING on the island works. No telecommunications, no power to run the Gas Stations, no power to run the banks and they are dependent on outside help to put it back together -- while they are Bankrupt and under the Authority of the 2016 PROMESA Law (Obama signed) that has put an Oversight Board in place for all Major decisions. The Puerto Ricans really have no say in what is happening OR will happen and that 's their own fault - The Governor is certainly aware.

How wise of Madam Mayor to insult the USA - perhaps she could consider staying off of TV and picking up some water/food to hand out instead of her nasty comments. Puerto Rico is a "taker society" and the Mayor is rattling the wrong cage. I won't be surprised to see Martial Law if they don't start getting their act together soon.
