The venerable Second Amendment to the US Constitution ensures the citizens' right to keep and bear arms.
But how many arms? Two? Six? Twenty? 48? 600?
If Congress decided to strip Americans of all arms but two, how would 2nd Am advocates justify their "right" to bear an unlimited amount of arms?
It's a right that is the end users decision to exercise as they see fit.
Whether it's 1 or 1000.
Kind of like that first amendment, how everyone has the right to say or express themselves as they see fit...
Thing is. Once you start messing with a person's freedoms regardless what they are, or the intentions behind it... you're not going to get any productive answers or solutions. Not after so long of failed but implemented legislation.
I've said it before. I'll say it again... you open Pandoras box on restricting or altering rights to fit an agenda... you wind up leaving the rest open to re-interpretation as others see fit...
Does the Second Amendment define arms? Why not rocket launchers? And does the 2nd Amendment discriminate against the mentally ill? Should all the mentally ill have equal rights to weapons? Why not?
That's frequently the case when they're telling the truth.
Drives the leftist fanatics up the wall sometimes, they keep losing arguments because of that.
Sucks being a liberal sometimes.
Notice that nobody is asking how the liberals manage to "justify" a limit of two (or whatever number they dream up) when there is clearly no such authorization for the govt to limit the quantity.
One pump action shotgun, one bolt action 30.06 (or similar), maybe a single shot .22. That's enough. With a shotgun, rifle and four wheel drive, a country boy can survive.

I know a guy who must have at least 50 guns, all the way from muzzle-loaders, to assault weapons. But he's lost about 2/3 of his hearing------the muzzle-loaders are the worst for that problem. He's never hunted or had any experience with guns out in the field and it's not clear why he wants to have them. Three of his brothers, who've never hunted or been in combat, have also had many guns.
My personal observations, are that many of the people who seem most obsessed with owning large collections of guns, are those who have never had military service, been in law-enforcement or have been hunters. They've never seen first-hand, the destruction and tragedy guns can cause, in the wrong hands. And they may be trying to make up for their lack of service, in their own minds, by surrounding themselves with a lot of armament. Most of them are untrained and don't know what they're doing. Maybe the guns are phallic symbols or substitutes for them.
