Apparently someone in California is pushing an initiative to allow people without children to escape paying school taxes.

California proposal: No kids? Then don't pay school taxes | Fox News

Interesting idea. I think public education in this country has gone into the toilet. And I don't have kids, so if this caught on, I'd financially benefit. But this would likely collapse what's left of public education. And if you think society is unraveling now, just wait to see what the results of that would be.

I'd want a clause to include those of us who homeschool or send kids to private school.

Stupid reactionary idea. Everyone benefits from a good education system. People who walk shouldn't have to pay for roads, people who live inland shouldn't have to pay for the coast guard.

I don't have kids and likely never will have them, but this is a dumb idea.

Its the ultimate in "I got mine". They got a free public education, but don't want anyone else to have one.

Everyone benefits from an educated populace. I don't get to use any of our submarines or aircraft carriers, but I enjoy the protection they provide.

I didn't vote for Trump and I don't get to fly on Air Force One, but isn't it a good idea for our President to be able to travel?

In my area a new regional tech school was voted for and approved. The old one was falling apart at 50 years old. The new one will cost 160 million with the state paying about 30 million of that. Between the several towns that send approx 650 kids to this school the price per student is high. Yes we need to have young people that get into the trades and most are good paying jobs but I think we all need to do more with less.

The answer in America is to tear down old places that for some reason have not been taken care of over the years and spend millions on building it again.

I just wonder how many decades it will be before this new school is deemed unfit and will be taken down?

We all need to invest in the future and the future is kids but somehow I can't see the slack jawed kid with his pants below his butt taking care of me when I'm old.

The answer always seems to be raising taxes. That won't work someday soon. They need to make their budgets work today.

That’d be an even bigger disaster. We’d fall even further behind in science, as kids are taught that the world was created in 10,000 BC and that humans are descended from Adam and Eve.

Yes, we all benefit from educated system.

I do wish all the Public schools in every state was visited where the money was being spent. I believe a lot of the money being spent does not benefit the education of children.
Over $ 9 million spent on a district I know of of training staff and implanting “racial equity” where the meat and potatoes of the course os for whites to be “aware of their whiteness” and “white privileged” and a whole lot of people hired at a gross amount of salary for these trainings and hiring staff for this to be in each school.
And other politics I wont mention.
It should get back to just education only. And not all these special interest groups infiltrating our schools and costing it money
