Here's the deal with Elizabeth Warren's Native American heritage - CNNPolitics

So ... there it is .... maybe she is (1/32) .... maybe she ain't. It is what she was told her whole life by family members, so why would she not believe it. There is no indication she ever used 'race' as something to get any advantage over anything or anyone or to 'fake' her heritage.

I know of entire communities that have celebrated being native american all their lives only to have several individuals DNA test to find out they were part middle eastern, African and European and not native american at all. A lot of people just might be surprised what their ancestry actually is.

Regardless, what ever Elizabeth Warren thinks her ancestry may be and regardless of weather she is right or wrong in those assumptions, it is absolutely clear that Donald Trump is a mean, vile, insensitive, racist that will throw any insult or barb he can at anyone that fails to kneel down and worship him.

Yep but the stupid ignorant WT rednecks love him for this sort of thing.

Jackson the one responsible for the Indian removal act. Just a coincidence they'll say.

Explain how it was determined to be their lands?

If you can't understand that it was offensive for Trump to give her the nickname then we can't explain it to you.

We just can't.

It isn't a liberal thing or a conservative thing -- it's a racial thing.

And for Trump to choose to make a personal attack on someone that has nothing to do with honoring these great men is beyond childish and if you can't get that -- nobody can stop you from drinking your kool-aid.

As I said before...I have heard a few times this week that Trump's inability to really discuss policy and understand policy leaves him no other choice but to use personal attacks over trivial matters.

It has been proven that Warren's belief she was Native American had nothing to do with her getting in to Harvard or eventually being offered tenure there....but the myth lives on and grows among conservatives......

And still we can't get Trump to understand health care, international trade, new technologies, and what being the adult in the room means.

Maybe next time Trump is honoring, say, the Tuskeegee Airmen, he can make a jab about Rachael Dolezal, or "our little Harriet Tubman..." trying to detract from REAL blacks. Nah, that won't be crass.

If you and your family lived on property for 23,000 years .... I'd say it belongs to you.

And on a more general level -- it is possible to be outraged by two or three or more issues and they all don't have to be siding with one team (party).

It is possible and probable if you are a mature, discerning, intelligent, capable, adult -- to be concerned/angry/upset with a Republican for doing something.....and then also not supporting/accepting/etc....something a Democrat has done.

That's right -- one person can express disappointment, or anger with a way a politician handles a situation and also feel disappointment, disgust, anger about the actions of another politician from the other party. The concern for Trump's inability to behave/speak appropriately doesn't take away from the ability to criticize Democrats.

It's just -- you know - -he's the President and he's the one who wants and has the limelight. He doesn't like the heat -- get out of the kitchen...and let us criticize the next person.

Let us see if I can make clear what some people are upset about.

First, we all acknowledge that during the Presidential campaign candidate Trump enjoyed calling Senator Warren "Pocahontas".

Yesterday, President Trump met with three surviving Navajo 'Code Talkers', to honor them for their service to this country 70+ years ago.

During the little ceremony, Mr. Trump used the word "Pocahontas" to refer to a member of Congress (he did not cite Senator Warren by name).

Mr. Trump also said that he saw no need to read the remarks he had prepared to honor the Navajo's in attendance, but gave one the 'binder' containing his remarks.

Now, some were upset that during this Oval Office ceremony to honor US veterans of WWII, Mr. Trump used the name "Pocahontas" in a slighting way towards a (unnamed) member of Congress (recall that, excluding Senator Warren, there are two members of Congress that are Native American (both from Oklahoma)).

At the press briefing shortly afterwards, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, being asked about Mr. Trump's words, chose to bring up Senator Warren's name, stating that 1) Mr. Trump did not intend to use the word as a slur, and 2) then said:

"Look, I think that Senator Warren was very offensive when she lied about something specifically to advance her career. I don't understand why no one's asking about that question and why that isn't constantly covered."

Obviously, some herein have chosen to adopt Mr. Sander's rational that the issue is not whether the President used a word in a way that may be offensive towards his WWII Navajo guests, but direct attacks at Ms. Warren.

The President of the Navajo Nation has stated, today, that the way President Trump used the word was a slur.

Navajo Nation president: Yes, Trump quip is an ethnic slur | TheHill

The issue is not Senator Warren, but how the President of the US spoke in front of his guests.
