Gender is a social construct based on sex (because biologically there are two sexes, you're either one or the other, minus rare exceptions of those who are born with both sets of genitalia or other conditions). There are two genders because that's what society has said based on the two biological sexes, however it doesn't really make sense for there to be more than two. The two sexes are distinct because they allow us to reproduce... and that's really it. Sure, there are basic biological differences between males and females, but there's no actual reason women can't have long, unshaved body hair and be into sports and hunting and other stereotypically "manly" things. There's no actual reason men can't wear makeup or dresses or do stereotypically feminine things. The idea that there are more than two genders, I think, simply comes from the idea that people don't have to fit into stereotypes and gender roles. IMHO I think some people mistake "screw gender roles" for "there are now more than two genders."
I think people may not feel particularly masculine OR feminine. Maybe they don't feel either of those (society has created ideas as to what they should each feel and also look like), or maybe they feel more one or the other, maybe even day-to-day. Miley Cyrus alleges to feel this way. I'm pretty laid back and live and let live - as long as you aren't hurting anyone, I don't care what's between your legs and whether it "matches" how you look and act. I don't care if you're a masculine woman or a feminine man or both or whatever. But I don't think there are more than two genders. I don't think it makes sense for there to be more than two. You may feel as if you fall somewhere in between or within the two genders on any given day but I don't think there are more than two. I guess it can kind of be viewed as a spectrum - male on one end, female on the other, and some gray in between where it's some mix of the two or just a blur where you kind of recognize or identify as no specific gender.
We all know, or should know, about hermaphrodites, as well as homosexual and androgynous behavior--behavior that's irrespective of one's sex. Behavior is not the issue, anyway, nor is the diverse animal kingdom.
In the absence of an anomaly, the sex of a human is apparent in one's DNA, and there are only two. Sex can even be determined by certain bone fragments. Hormone treatments and surgical mutilation won't change that.
Educate yourself. And try to do better than Google.
I never claimed something like humans being able to change their sex organs like a clownfish. I would just point out that you're missing the point because proponents of multiple genders differentiate between gender and sexuality. Not saying that I personally believe in that. Maybe you can Google that. Or see if it's in the coursework at Trump University.
How about next we discuss if homosexuality is naturally possible in humans... :-)
Surely OP you don't think people go through sex change protocol and surgery because they have nothing else to do...or on a whim...
It must be extremely difficult to come to the real conclusion that you feel you are a different sex...and equally as difficult to go through changes and surgery, in addition to snide and ignorant comments from people.
Would anyone CHOOSE this route, knowing what lies before them...?
It depends on the amount of exposure they have had to liberal progressive ideas and indoctrination.

It's almost as if the two words "sex" and "gender" mean two different things.

1) Because they like the attention.
2) They can play the victim card.
3) Lately, it's become the fashionable thing to do.
4) Most of all, they're mentally ill.
Sexuality and gender are on a spectrum. They are not binary. Seriously, I thought this was common knowledge.
One would think, but that "common knowledge" involves science, a subject which the far-right has declared war on for decades now. Anything that's not on Breitbart or in one of the handful of "religious" quotes that they enjoy (right-wingers always skip the ones that talk about "loving thy neighbor" or "removing the plank in your own eye before worrying about the speck in your neighbor's), does not exist to them. Their ignorance is their shield against reality and the bedrock of their bigotry.
There are two genders. All the rest are mental disorders.
